The Poway Home Education Program (PHEP) is designed for families choosing to homeschool their children who are in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through fifth grade. The program provides families with grade level curriculum, materials, and a credentialed supervising teacher to facilitate and guide instruction. 

A parent/guardian/caregiver and student are required to meet weekly with an assigned credentialed supervising teacher to review assigned work and academic progress. The credentialed supervising teacher will ensure the PHEP Written Agreement is followed.

The Poway Home Education Program (PHEP) Details/Requirements:

  1. PUSD District Adopted Curriculum

  2. Weekly parent/guardian/caregiver and student meeting with assigned credentialed supervising teacher. 

  3. One-on-one guidance and support from a credentialed supervising teacher.

  4. Monthly, in-person opportunities for collaboration and social emotional connection.

  5. PUSD Trimester progress reports (parent/guardian/caregiver & credentialed supervising teacher conferences).

  6. Learners participate in state testing & PUSD assessments.

  7. K-3rd grade, daily synchronous learning via Zoom by a credentialed supervising teacher.

  8. 4th-5th grade, weekly synchronous learning via Zoom by a credentialed supervising teacher . 

  9. 4th-5th grade, daily opportunities for live interaction. 

    1. Interaction may be with peers and/or PUSD staff.

    2. Interaction may be via digital tools, emails, or other communication.   

  10. Direct instruction by the parent/guardian/caregiver.

  11. Weekly submission of completed student work via PUSD learning management system. 

  12. Minimum 5 days weekly instruction time (25 hours).
