COVID TESTING

PUSD has partnered with Phamatech to provide PUSD staff, students, and their immediate family members who are a close contact or exhibiting symptoms with convenient drive-thru access to testing, as well as expedited results.

Phamatech is located at 15175 Innovation Drive, San Diego, CA 92128

You must make an appointment in advance: Appointment portal linked here

Appointments are available 7 days per week – times vary per day. The tests are free:

  • If you have insurance/Medicare/Medi-Cal, you will be asked to provide that information and Phamatech will bill your insurance for the test. There is no copay.

  • If you do not have insurance, you will enter the word NONE for insurance information and the federal/state governments will reimburse Phamatech. Please do not write NONE if you have insurance.

Again, this is for all PUSD Staff, students, and their family members exposed to COVID (you must check the “exposed box” when making appointment)

VACCINE CLINIC INFORMATION

Sharp HealthCare will be hosting vaccination clinics periodically at PUSD schools for anyone in our community who would like to receive the Pfizer COVID vaccine as well as any PUSD staff who qualify for a booster shot (at least six months after their completing their initial Pfizer vaccine series).

No Upcoming Vaccine Clinics at this time

VACCINE MANDATE

On October, 1, 2021, the Governor announced that he will mandate COVID vaccines for all students attending any public or private school in-person, once the vaccine is fully authorized by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The mandate would take effect for 7th through 12th graders following the FDA’s full approval of the vaccine for children ages 12 and over. The mandate could take effect for students 12 and older by January 2022 or July 2022, depending on the timing for full federal approval for a COVID-19 vaccine for that age range. COVID vaccine requirements for students in kindergarten through 6th grade would be phased in after the vaccine is formally approved by the FDA for younger children. This means that the COVID vaccine would be added to the list of existing vaccine requirements for all children attending school in California. Exemptions for medical and personal beliefs would apply. As more details emerge, we will share them with you. With the Governor's announcement, testing weekly for unvaccinated staff will eventually be removed as an option, and all school staff will be required to be vaccinated no later than when the requirement takes effect for students. Our priority is to continue to keep our staff and students healthy and safe, and as such, we will continue to follow any CDPH guidelines and public health orders, as mandated by the State.

POWAY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT COVID-19 DASHBOARD

All confirmed positive COVID-19 incidents related to Poway Unified school sites and offices will be posted to this page. For the purposes of this dashboard, PUSD is distinguishing between school-based cases and community-based cases, with two separate columns for every month in the table below:

  • "S.B." School-Based cases:
a. school-based cases will potentially impact individuals' health and wellness at our school or office because there may be site-related exposure OR a positive case was on campus during an infectious period
b. a school-based case MAY cause classroom closure or other precautionary measures
c. we will follow the San Diego County Office of Eduction Decision Tree and Guidelines around isolating and notifying close contacts, as needed

  • Known "C.B." Community-Based cases:
a. community-based cases DO NOT impact individuals' health and wellness at our school or office because no one at the site was in close contact with the positive individual during the infectious period. Per the CDC definition, this means no one at the site was within 6 feet of the infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient was isolated
b. this dashboard will include all known community-based cases related to PUSD; this dashboard may not reflect all community-based cases involving our staff and students because PUSD relies on notification from public health or self-reporting from staff or families
c. we will follow the San Diego County Office of Education Decision Tree and Guidelines around isolating the positive case, as needed

Most Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How often is the Dashboard updated?
Answer: The Dashboard is updated at least every 5-7 days and when we are notified of confirmed cases by the public health department.

Question: I received a notification from my school about a case. Why isn't it on the dashboard yet?
Answer: PUSD does not wait to notify close contacts upon initial report of a positive case. However, we do wait for official confirmation from the public health department before listing the case on this dashboard. This could result in a delay of cases appearing on this dashboard or a discrepancy between the number of notifications received and actual number of confirmed cases (when the case is not confirmed positive by public health).

Question: Who receives notification if there is a positive case?
Answer: Three different types of notifications go out: one to close contacts with any relevant quarantine or testing requirements or recommendations, one to the classroom or cohort, and one to the larger school community.

Question: I am a close contact to a positive case or I am exhibiting COVID symptoms. Where can PUSD students or staff go to get tested?
Answer:  Please see the nearby COVID testing options below:
