SHOAL CREEK TRAFFIC GUIDELINES

  • Please keep the safety of children at the front of your thoughts and actions when entering the parking lot.
  • Please turn off your cell phone and other distractions as you approach the school.
  • Please stay in a single lane as you come through the parking lot. We have found that allowing cars to form a passing lane creates an unsafe environment. People drive too quickly; they allow their child to enter the car before the designated area, thus slowing down the process; and the congestion created at the top of peninsula makes it difficult to manage the flow of traffic.
  • Please follow the directions of the traffic volunteer. Cars are not allowed in the bus turnaround until all bus pick ups and drop offs are completed and only as the traffic volunteer directs.
  • Please help keep things moving each morning by having your child ready to go, with backpack in hand, as they exit from the passenger side of the car. Opening trunks, back doors, and other areas slows down the process.
  • Please allow cars that have been parked in the lot to merge with the flow of traffic.
  • Pedestrians, please only cross at designated crosswalks. There is no designated crosswalk at the end of the peninsula. Please remain on the sidewalks and walk around to the front gates.
  • Please follow the traffic flow into the parking lot (turn right rather than going straight). All students should be dropped off and wait for pick up on the peninsula. Students will not be allowed to wait at the stop sign at the parking lot entrance. Students must remain on the peninsula, with teacher supervision. It is unsafe to have your child wait alone away from the school.
  • Please remain calm and composed as you navigate through the arrival and dismissal routine. Everyone in the parking lot is a member of our community, the parent of your child’s friend, and interested in making Shoal Creek the best school possible. Please treat everyone respectfully – your children, and theirs, are watching. We hear reports daily of cursing and gesturing – there is no place for such behavior in our parking lot. We need more volunteers to assist with traffic and to help keep us safe! If you are interested in learning more about assisting with traffic management, please contact the office. (858) 613-9080
