Substitute Teacher Employment Application and Information
Thank you for your interest in the Poway Unified School District. Our district is dedicated to equipping students for success in college and their future careers. Interested applicants must follow the steps as outlined below:
1. You will need a valid Teaching Credential: *Currently*, Poway Unified is accepting applications from candidates who possess one of the following credentials: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Single Subject Teaching Credential, Education Specialist Credential, or Counseling Credential.

Go to SDCOE Fingerprinting, then click the tab towards the bottom of the page, 'Requirements for Fingerprinting'. If you are a retired teacher returning as a substitute, fingerprinting may be required. Contact the Substitute Assignment Desk for more information.
Please have the following second set of fingerprints completed before applying:
- DOJ Clearing House Fingerprints (DOJ FORM), (needed for certificated employment with PUSD.)
- Resume
- Three signed letters of recommendation dated within the past three years.
- Unofficial copies of your transcripts
- CBEST test results (This is not a required attachment in your application, but if you have your results, please include them.)
- TB Results/X-ray Results (Risk assessments are not accepted for first-time employees)
Application Process
The Substitute Desk will review applications regularly. Applicants selected for employment will receive communication from the Substitute Desk. Due to the high volume of applications received, Poway Unified School District requests that you do not contact the Human Resources office regarding the status of your application. Applications will be carefully reviewed, and those with the most appropriate education, experience, and training will be contacted to continue the process. If it is determined that you will not move forward, you will receive a regret email. Melissa Mann is notified each time an applicant has applied.
