Substitute Teacher Employment Application and Information
We sincerely appreciate your interest in becoming a Substitute Teacher with Poway Unified School District (PUSD)! The application process for Substitute Teachers is currently closed, but we eagerly anticipate welcoming new substitute teachers come the 2026-2027 school year. I appreciate your patience as we guide new candidates through the interview and orientation process. We appreciate your interest and are excited about the prospect of you joining our PUSD community.
Interested applicants must follow the steps as outlined below:
1. The Substitute Teacher application is currently closed: At this time, Poway Unified is accepting applications from candidates who possess one of the following credentials: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Single Subject Teaching Credential, Education Specialist Teaching Credential, or a Counseling Credential.

Second set of Fingerprinting Information:
DOJ Clearinghouse fingerprinting is not required for Poway Unified School District certificated employment.
Information regarding the second set of fingerprinting requirements will be provided upon hire.
- Resume
- Three signed letters of recommendation dated within the past three years.
- Unofficial copies of your transcripts
- CBEST test results (This is not a required attachment in your application, but if you have your results, please include them.)
- TB Results/X-ray Results (Risk assessments are not accepted for first-time employees)
Application Process
The Substitute Desk will review applications regularly. Applicants selected for employment will receive communication from the Substitute Desk. Due to the high volume of applications received, Poway Unified School District requests that you do not contact the Human Resources office regarding the status of your application. Applications will be carefully reviewed, and those with the most appropriate education, experience, and training will be contacted to continue the process. If it is determined that you will not move forward, you will receive a regret email. Melissa Mann is notified each time an applicant applies.
