5TH GRADE PROMOTION: Stone Ranch 5th Grade Promotion will be held on Wednesday, June 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the quad area.

YOU’RE INVITED!   Mark your calendar:  Volunteer Breakfast on May 29th at 8:00 a.m. (invitations coming home soon)!  Reclassification Celebration for ELL students on June 5th at 7:30 a.m. (invitations coming home soon)!

COMPASS LEARNING:  Before school Compass Learning will be ending on Friday, May 24th.

TRAILBLAZER TIDBITS :  Eureka!  I’ve struck it rich!  Currently in Mrs. Mikkonen’s class we are playing the Gold Rush Game.  We can earn gold nuggets by doing good things.  In rounds, each team gets to go once unless they have 2 claims.  They each get a “Fate Card”, which can be either good or bad.  Then we could choose either 1, 2,or 3 questions.  Then if you answered it right, depending on what equipment you had (cradle, long tom, or pan), you would get gold nuggets.  If you answered it wrong, someone else could jump your claim if they answered the question right.  I wonder what we’re going to do with all the gold nuggets? –submitted by Celine Cen, Mrs. Mikkonen’s 4th Grade class

Rockin’ Ranch News...a new student newspaper.  Hi Trailblazers!  Have you ever thought of making a school newspaper?  We are students from F8 and F9 and we got the idea of making a school newspaper from the book called The Landry News.  In this book, a girl name Cara starts a school newspaper.  And that’s when we were inspired to make one too!  Now here’s where you come in.  You can write a simple and creative article for our newspaper which is called the “Rockin’ Ranch News”.  If it’s an article, it must be 200 words or less.  If a puzzle or any other type of thing, it can be a maximum of 6 by 6 inches.  You can find instructions in the red bin in the office and turn in your article in there.  There you will also find some copies of our April edition.  WE NEED YOUR ARTICLE BY WEDNESDAY, MAY 22nd.   You can write about a project you’re working on or anything that YOU think would fit best in the newspaper.  Let your imagination soar!  Together we can create something each and every student of Stone Ranch can see and enjoy.  Post your articles and be creative!  Who knows?  Maybe your article will be in the next edition.—submitted Adhiti, Anika, Arushi, Avishi, and Azaria

BUCKETFILLER’S NEWS:

Box Tops – Did you know that Box Tops have an expiration date on them?  In fact, many Box Tops actually have expiration dates which occur over the summer months.  Unfortunately, any Box Tops that we receive that are expired must be discarded and we don’t receive any money for them.  We are asking for your help to prevent this problem and would like you to please turn in any Box Tops with an expiration date between June–August 2013.  Please submit them by Friday, May 24th to the Box Tops collection bin in the front office lobby.

CAMP INVENTION:  As you look into finding exciting learning opportunities for your child(ren) during the summer, I would ask you to consider enrolling your child in Camp Invention.  This is the fourth year Stone Ranch welcomes Camp Invention as a one week summer program for our students.  This one week science camp is directed and taught by many of our very own Stone Ranch teachers!  Stone Ranch will host the camp the week of June 24- 28, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  This science camp gives elementary school aged children an opportunity to engage in hands-on science projects for an entire week! The curriculum is STEM based allowing all children to question, think, and create.  Flyers for Camp Invention will be distributed within the next few weeks. You can inquire more about Camp Invention at www.campinvention.org or you can connect with Mrs. Daellenbach via email, mdaellenbach@powayusd.com or by phone 858-487-8474 x4701.  A bonus for Stone Ranch is that if the camp is filled to capacity InventNow donates $2,000 to our school.  This would certainly be a happy situation for all!  The children are actively learning in a familiar, safe, and healthy environment and the school receives a bonus that Mrs. Venolia can use at her discretion.

WRITERS CAMP: Write On!  Do you have your summer vacation plans in motion? Sharpen up your pencils and join us for two weeks of rocking, writing and sharing stories at Stone Ranch Young Writers Camp! Camp begins July 8- 19th, from 8:30 - 11:30, for students entering 2 – 6th grades.  Early registration price of $215 ends June 13th.  Contact dmikkonen@powayusd.com for more information.
