News -
Prepayment via credit card: The Food
and Nutrition Department is pleased to introduce an exciting
new service for school meal prepayments. Effective
immediately, parents of students can log onto
www.myLunchMoney.com and prepay for their child’s meals
using their Visa or MasterCard. The charge for this service
is a flat fee of $1.95 per credit card transaction
regardless of the amount paid. Parents can also call a toll
free number with questions, or to enroll over the phone, at
1-800-479-3531.
The online account allows parents to
view their child’s balance and make payments any time of
day. Parents can also set up “one-time” or recurring
prepayment transactions. In a future upgrade, parents will
be able to view their child’s meal purchases and spending
history, set limits for meal purchases, and view nutritional
content of their child’s meals.

Weekly Phone Calls
Morning Creek is using a system called
ConnectED to call our families with important
recorded messages. We are making these
calls every Sunday evening at 6:30.
Once in a while, when listening to a message
please be aware that the background noise at the
receiving end may cause the system to stop and
restart or it may cause the message to stutter
and repeat. It is calibrated very delicately to
determine whether a person or an answering
machine is responding to the ConnectED phone
call. If possible move to a quiet area, or press
the “mute” button on your phone. Also, if you
missed any part of a message, please stay on the
line and press “*” (star) to hear the message
again.

October Newsletter
The calendar says it is fall, but the weather still feels
a lot like summer! I know we will all be watching the
weather this month, hoping for rain and mild or no Santa
Ana’s. Some of the children may bring up last year,
especially if you evacuated so take time to talk with them
about safety and let them express their worries or fears.
Each month, we participate in fire drills and each semester,
we practice evacuation drills in conjunction with earthquake
preparedness. I will be sharing information regarding our
School Safety Plan at the October Principal Coffee on
October 17 immediately following Friday Flag.
Thanks to everyone who made our Back to School Sock Hop such
a huge success! I received many compliments regarding the
evening and I passed them along to our PTA Board. The smiles
lit up the room! Also, many thanks for supporting the PTA
Gift Wrap Fundraiser—it was also very successful thanks to
you!
I would like to thank everyone in advance for supporting the
Foundation Read-a-thon. Most of you have had a chance to see
the new document cameras in action in 3rd-5th grade
classrooms. Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade are
sharing cameras at this time but through everyone’s generous
support of our Foundation sponsored activities; hopefully
all classrooms will soon have a permanent document camera.
That is our goal!
It seems as though the flu season has struck a bit early
this year. We have had several absences, kids with fevers
and stomach flu. We are doing our best to remind students to
wash their hands thoroughly several times each day. Please
continue to help us with the goal of reducing absences this
year. Make sure your child has a healthy breakfast each day
and is getting plenty of rest. Remember, when kids miss
school, they miss out!
Parent conferences are scheduled on October 29-31st. Please
make every effort to meet with your child’s teacher in order
to stay informed regarding academic progress. Parent
conferences are an opportunity to strengthen the home-school
connection so come with questions. Please see the Parent
Conference Tips included in this newsletter to support you
in having a successful meeting. This year I will be awarding
“Perfect Attendance Awards” each trimester. To receive an
award, students must be in school and on time everyday.
As part of our focus on “College Ready” this year, we have
designated the first Thursday of each month as College Pride
Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their
favorite college shirts. If you are on campus on the first
Thursday, please join us! There will be a College Fair on
October 22 at Westview High School from 5:30-8:30. Everyone
is welcome to attend!
On Friday, October 3 all students participated in a
Character Counts Assembly featuring the Morris Brothers. The
Morris Brothers presented a fun-filled activity highlighting
the importance of teamwork, respect, responsibility, being
caring and demonstrating good citizenship. The students
learned the difference between tattling and reporting when
it comes to bullying behavior and how to stand up for
themselves in positive ways. We will continue our focus on
the Character Pillars during Red Ribbon/Character Counts
week, October 20th-24th. Watch for more information
regarding special activities during that week.
Thank you for all you do to make Morning Creek School
Community a great place for all children!
Together, we create a better tomorrow!
