Poway Virtual Courses Learner Guidelines
This guide is designed to inform studentss of the basic requirements associated with taking an online course. Before registering for an online course, students should reflect on their learning style when reviewing the learner guidelines below.
SUCCESSFUL ONLINE STUDENTS ARE:
- Independent learners with discipline.
- Committed and take responsibility for their learning.
- Able to manage time well.
- Computer proficient.
USER EXPECTATIONS
PARTICIPATION: To be successful in an online course, students will need to access online content at least every two days and/or spend 8-10 hours a week on posted content. It is expected that all students will have an active presence in the online community. Students need to organize their week for consistent participation. PUSD online courses are developed with the intent that students will need to spend 80 hours total in order to complete a course.
STUDENT VOICE with Value Added: In order to create a community of learners, students will be expected to participate in discussion board forums. It is imperative that the discussion forums reflect high order thinking and maintain language expectations for an academic environment.
- Give an example of what the prior post described;
- Provide a different perspective of the topic posted;
- Expand upon the idea posted in the message by including more detail and depth.
ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY
Students will be expected to adhere to standards of academic honesty and integrity, as outlined in the Student Academic Honesty Policy. All written work and oral presentation assignments must be original work and adhere to MLA format guidelines.Students are responsible for honest completion of their work including examinations. There will be no tolerance for infractions. If you believe there has been an infraction by someone in the class, please bring it to the instructor’s attention immediately. The instructor reserves the right to discipline any student for academic dishonesty in accordance with the general rules and regulations of the Poway Unified School board policy and California Educational Code. Incidents of academic dishonesty will be reported to the site administration and handled according to Board policy.
