Welcome to Poway High!

Like many letters of introduction on school websites, I'm going to write about our mission. We do have a mission here at Poway High School, but my message is that we take our mission seriously, and we are constantly working on doing a better job of delivering the promise of our mission to all of our students.  This year we will spend a lot of our professional growth time considering how our students are doing academically, what goals can give us the biggest impact in improving academic and social achievement for our students, and what specific actions we can take to meet those goals.

Schools are known for spending time creating beautifully crafted goals that are never reached. Each year we create an Action Plan to guide us in reaching our goals. Each department and area meets to determine specific steps needed to execute the goals. We welcome all of our stakeholders- students, parents, staff and community members- to become involved in pursuing our goals and the school mission. Poway High is grateful for all of the support we receive, especially from parents and the community. We want to deepen that support through communication and knowledge. This website is one source of information.  Feel free to explore it,  especially the mission and vision page. Attend the community events that we offer, such as Back-To-School Night and PTSA Principals Coffees, and get involved with one of our committees such as School Site Council or District Advisory Committee.

Thanks for staying with my narrative about our mission. The moment I hope you've been waiting for, the mission statement itself, is just seconds ahead. As you read it, please note that the subject is not teachers or administrators or parents, it's community. We are all in this together- together for our students.

Mission: The Poway High School Community will ensure a safe, respectful, challenging learning environment that requires all students to meet high expectations and pursue their goals.

Thanks,
Ron Garrett
