Welcome to the Family Learning Center!

The Family Learning Center is the creation of Greg Magno, Principal of Mt Carmel High School. He envisioned an after-school program that would offer chrome books, internet access, counselors, tutors and resources for all 3 of our feeder schools - Mt. Carmel High School, Black Mountain Middle School and siblings of these two schools from Los Penasquitos Elementary School.  We are located on the grounds of Los Penasquitos Elementary School. Sara Ramirez, the assistant principal of MCHS and Greg Magno run the Family Learning Center Program.
The Family Learning Center is going into its fourth year and we continue to grow in resources and students. It is a safe, friendly and respectful environment where students can do their homework and get additional academic help from MCHS instructors and MCHS peer tutors.

The Family Learning Center is designed specifically for students of Mt. Carmel High School and Black Mountain Middle School.  If students from either Mt. Carmel High School or Black Mountain Middle School need to care for their younger siblings that attend Los Penasquitos Elementary School, they are welcomed to bring them to the Family Learning Center.
Los Penasquitos Elementary School students MUST be accompanied by an older sibling from either Mt. Carmel High School or Black Mountain Middle School to attend  the Family Learning Center.
To attend the Family Learning Center, the student must download a Student Information Form and fill it out and have it signed by their legal guardian as well as download and read and initial the Family Learning Center Rules and submit both forms when attending the Family Learning Center for the first time.
We offer a peer tutor program for students of Mt. Carmel High School.  Students may gain valuable volunteer hours needed for graduation by volunteering their time to assist students with their homework.  Interested students need to download and fill out the Peer Tutor Volunteer Protocol form and bring it to the Family Learning Center upon their first visit.
Every trimester, the Family Learning Center will publish a newsletter featuring student successes and current information. We would like to include photos of our students from time to time.  We have a consent form that can be downloaded and filled out by parents granting us permission to use student’s photos in our newsletter.  The newsletter is only available to the families and students who attend the Family Learning Center.
The Family Learning Center is open from 3:00 - 6:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  For any questions or further information, please contact Patti Park, Parent and Community Liaison at or call (858) 672-3600 xt 3130.
In addition to our after-school program, ESL classes for adults are given at the Family Learning Center Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:30 - 11:30. They are offered through Poway Adult School. For information about these classes you can visit the website and click on Poway Adult School or you can call them at (858) 668-4024.
