Welcome to the Family Learning Center!

The Family Learning Center is the creation of Greg Magno, Principal of Mt Carmel High School. He envisioned an after-school program that offers Chromebooks, internet access, counselors, tutors and resources specifically designed for Mt. Carmel High School students, and their siblings that attend Black Mountain Middle School and Los Penasquitos Elementary School.  The Family Learning Center Program is currently conducted virtually, but it was established as an in-person program and will return to being in-person soon.  Sara Ramirez, the assistant principal of MCHS, and Greg Magno run the Family Learning Center Program.
The Family Learning Center is going into its fifth year and we continue to grow in resources and students. It is a safe, friendly and respectful environment where students can do their homework and get additional academic help from MCHS instructors and MCHS peer tutors.
We offer a peer tutor program for students of Mt. Carmel High School.  Students may gain valuable volunteer hours needed for graduation by volunteering their time to assist students with their homework.  Interested students need to download and fill out the Peer Tutor Volunteer Protocol form and bring it to the Family Learning Center upon their first visit.

The Family Learning Center is open virtually from 3:00 - 6:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  For any questions or further information, please contact Kim Tran, MCHS Counselor, at or call (858) 484-1180 x3122.
In addition to our Family Learning Center after-school program, the Poway Adult School offers FREE English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the Poway Adult School location, online and on campus at Valley Elementary School to students and to the public for those 18 years of age and older.  Valley Elementary School has a morning ESL class that offers free childcare, if needed.  To register or to find out more information about ESL classes, use this link ESL Classes or contact the Poway Adult School at (858) 668-4024.
