Del Norte High School Field Hockey

Updated 7/20/2022

Welcome to Del Norte Field Hockey's official website.

Del Norte Field Hockey has had a successful history since beginning the program in 2009. We have made it to the CIF playoffs every year, often to quarters and semis, and winning the Division 1 Championship in 2019. We are looking to get back to the finals and need your help. Please consider joining one of the more successful teams on campus.

No experience is needed and we normally run three teams, so there is usually room for everyone. Come on out to try something new and to meet new friends.

Interest Form:
Whether you are new to Del Norte Field Hockey or are a returning athlete, please take a moment to fill out the 2022-23 field hockey player interest form. Please only submit one entry per player and double check your information before submitting.

Off-Season:
In the off season, the Nighthawks organize as a club in partnership with HTC Field Hockey for both high school and middle school athletes. To find out what we are up to, please take a moment to fill out the linked form below:

Dates to pick up your Ticket to Play:
Check the Del Norte Athletics page for pickup dates.

Dates to work around during the season:
Dead-Period 7/24/22 - 8/6/22
  • Coaches cannot communicate with players nor their families between these dates
  • This is the perfect time to take your summer vacation
  • Tenative Dead-Period for the 2023 season: 7/23/23-8/5/23
Please do not schedule to take SATs on:
  • Oct 1, 2022 (JV Tournament)
  • Nov 5, 2022 (1st round CIF - Varsity only)

Mandatory Tryouts Begin:
August 8 - 10, 2022 from 6pm-7:30pm on the lower fields. If you're on time, you're late!

Del Norte is hosting the San Diego County Field Hockey Jamboree this year on Saturday, 8/13. Please clear your calendar to attend.

If you're new to the sport, we have some sticks available to borrow, but you must have your own mouthguard and field hockey shinguards. Our sticks are not high quality, so you will want to purchase your own stick if plan to continue in the sport. 4U Sports will join us at both the Field Hockey Jamboree on Aug 13 and our parent meeting prior to the start of the season if you need any hockey equipment for the upcoming season.

Eye Protection Information:
Since the 2020-2021 field hockey season, the mandatory goggle requirement has been removed, but you may wear them if you like.

If you choose to wear goggles, they must meet the ASTM F2713-09 protection standard for eyewear. Approved goggles include both Polycarbonate (clear lens) and wire cage protective eyewear.

Note: International (FIH), USA Field Hockey and NCAA rules DO NOT permit the use of wire-frame/cage goggles, so the wire-frame/cage type could not be worn at any of these type of events. These include Cal Cup and Festival.
