PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
At this Thanksgiving season I would like to take a moment to express how grateful I am to be a part of the Turtleback school community.  I am thankful for students who cheerfully work hard to learn, parents who encourage, and teachers who are dedicated and truly care about each child.  I am thankful for our Foundation and parent volunteers who do all they can to make Turtleback a great place to be.  I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have experienced here over the past six years.  Thank you for your help, support, understanding, and friendship.  There is no other place I would rather be.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Warm regards,
Ann Auten
Principal

  • 1st Grade: 11:30-11:50 a.m.
  • 2nd Grade: 11:45 a.m.-12:05 p.m.
  • 3rd Grade: 12:00-12:20 p.m.

  • 5th Grade: 12:30-12:50 p.m.

BOARD GAMES NEEDED!
We are in need of donations of games!  During our hot and rainy days, we would love to have some board games for kids to play in the MPR.  Some of our 4th and 5th grade students made a list of some games they would like to play.  If you have any of the following games and are willing to donate them to Turtleback, we would really appreciate it:  Monopoly Jr., Ten-Z, Game of Life, Sorry, Mastermind, Chess, Battleship, Sequence, and Monopoly Diamond
We could also use any G rated movies in DVD format.

2017-2018 PUSD GATE TESTING INFORMATION
PUSD is accepting requests for evaluation for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE).  GATE involves instruction for exceptionally able students in grades 3-8 whose cognitive needs may require a modified classroom program to accommodate their learning differences.  Students in grades 2nd – 7th may be tested. The following general guidelines may be used as you consider the appropriateness of GATE testing for your child:

1)   Advanced comprehension and a very fast pace of learning for new concepts
2)   A need for complexity and intensity in the learning environment
3)   The desire to think deeply shown through the ability to make connections and generalizations across subjects/disciplines

If you would like your child tested for possible GATE identification, please visit the GATE webpage on https://onlinereg.powayusd.com/GateSurvey/ . You must complete the request online before November 30, 2017. If you have any questions about GATE testing, please talk to your child’s teacher during parent/teacher conferences the week of November 13th.

Your child’s school will contact you following the Winter Break, to inform you of the exact date of GATE testing at your child’s school. Students will be excused from class for approximately one hour in order to participate in testing during the regular school day. The testing window is between Jan. 23-25, 2018.

Notifications regarding GATE testing results will be mailed to parents in April, 2018.

BAND CONCERT
Parents are invited to attend our first 5th grade band concert this year on Monday, December 18th at 8:45 a.m. in the MPR.  All 5th grade students performing in the concert should wear a white shirt and dark pants.  Second, Third, and Fourth Grade classes have also been invited to attend.

LOST & FOUND
Our Lost and Found cart is overflowing!  Please make sure to check the Lost and Found cart by the front gate for any items your student may be missing.  All items left after December 22nd  will be donated to charity.

TURTLEBACK’S GOT TALENT—TAKE 2!  START PRACTICING THOSE GROUP ACTS!  WONDERING WHAT TO DO?
For all of our avid performers and the Terrapin kids that have been begging, Turtleback’s Variety Show will be back in 2018!  Auditions will be held in January and more information will follow in December. If you would like to order a DVD of last year’s show to get an idea of expectations and what the final performance looked like, please turn in $3 per DVD to the Foundation Box Attn: Genni Myles.  Make sure you to include your child’s name and teacher’s name.
If your child has started working on any acts (dancing, singing, instrument playing, martial arts, acting, gymnastics, magic, comedy, etc.), please remember to limit them to 1½ minutes, include as many Turtleback friends as possible since this year group acts will have priority over individual, and get your music onto a CD.  Performances will be held on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31 at 7pm in the MPR.   Questions?  Contact Genni Myles, 858-243-1848, gsmyles@hotmail.com

ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, GO!
Trekkers is our recess running program that promotes healthy living through exercise. Students will receive special prizes when they complete 25, 50, 75, and 100 miles.
To support this program for first through fifth grade students, we need parent volunteers during morning recess on Tuesday and Thursday from 10-11am. Please click here to volunteer. All volunteers will need to have Megan's Law clearance, a signed Volunteer Code of Conduct on file, and the required TB risk assessment completed.
