PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Thank you and Thank you!!!
First of all I would like to thank ALL our parent volunteers for the many, many hours you have contributed to make Turtleback the amazing school it is.  We absolutely could not provide the variety of awesome programs you run as well as those behind the scene volunteers who help the teachers and staff.

The second thank you is for completing our Homework Survey!  We had an incredible 44% complete the survey.  That is AWESOME!  Survey completion at 25% is considered a great response.  Our School Site Council reviewed the entire survey at our meeting yesterday afternoon.  We noticed a very positive trend based on the changes we put into place after our survey last year.  We also found some very useful information that will help us as we make adjustments to our homework for next year.

I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to all who serve our country!

Warm Regards,
Ann Auten
Principal

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND MOBILE PHONE/DEVICE USE
Turtleback Parents,
I am in the middle of doing my master’s thesis on elementary school students and mobile devices.  Many students and parents in the upper grades have already participated, but I need more parents to participate before I can really examine the data.  The purpose of this study is to gather insight into behaviors and experiences elementary-aged students have with mobile devices, their feelings on school policy related to devices including cell phones, as well as how the use of personal mobile devices by students may affect their social relationships and impact their academic success.  The goal is to collect data on elementary school students since the average age of cell phone ownership continues to get younger and younger. The school may also use the information to guide future parent education nights.

Since I am conducting the research through California State University San Marcos, I do need you to provide a consent form (that is very formal based on university regulations) to be part of the survey.  Here is the link.  Please print out the last page and sign.  Your child can turn it into their teacher.  (If your student is in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, and they haven’t taken the survey, then feel free to give them consent to take the student survey and I will coordinate with their teacher to have them participate next week. The consent is on the same form.

Once you have signed the consent form, then follow this link directly to the parent survey:

I appreciate your input and support.
