PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Turtleback Families,
Last night the Board of Education voted to temporarily suspend in-person learning for the two weeks following winter break, January 4 through January 15, 2021. ESS and full-day preschools will now be suspended during this two week period. We apologize for the inconveniences this causes and know that we are doing everything in our power at Turtleback to offer students both on campus and virtual learning opportunities.
If your child has been learning on campus please make sure to be on the lookout for additional information from your child’s teacher regarding any changes to schedules and opportunities to support.
I truly hope that this winter break brings you love and positive energy as we welcome the New Year! This amazing learning community doesn’t happen by accident and it is a reflection of your tireless efforts and belief in a better tomorrow. I am confident that 2021 is going to be a great year!
In collaboration with our PureEdge partners in social emotional learning and PUSD’s Mindful Moment, we are sharing some of our favorite Brain Breaks with you to ease the stress of the season. Please feel free to use these Brain Breaks as you choose with your child and as a family. Mental health and wellness is a top priority in Poway Unified School District and we hope that you are safe and well.
The Luckiest Principal in the World,
Adam Carlin

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR SPELLING F-U-N
January 27, 2021
The Spell-a-thon, our second largest fundraiser of the year, will take place on January 27! In addition to reinforcing grade-level spelling words, the Spell-a-thon provides students with an opportunity to earn money for the school. This money will help provide school supplies and resources for our Terrapins and teachers.
Our goal for the event is for each student to collect at least $25 in pledges, which would mean over $13,000 for our school!!!
All students will receive their pledge sheet and word list before the break as a digital copy or a physical copy (they are also attached to this e-mail!). For VLA students, your teacher will collect your pledge sheets and spelling test at your next scheduled materials drop off/pickup.
No matter how you are learning this year, top spellers, top pledge earners, and all those who collect pledges will be awarded prizes!
Also, we’re looking for parents to help grade spelling tests from the comfort of your home! If you can help us please sign up here so we can contact you.
Thank you in advance for supporting Turtleback by participating in this event.
