Volunteers Needed! Fitness Club

Fitness Club is looking for volunteers! Right now, we need volunteers who might be willing to sub for our regular weekly volunteers when they have conflicts and can’t make their shifts.  Shifts are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11:35 – 1:40ish.  No prior experience necessary, and younger siblings are always welcome.  If interested and able, please email Wendy Lathrop at

This Week! The NED Show Assembly and Yo-Yo Sales

NED’s Mindset Mission Assembly is visiting our school! NED and our students will take a journey to find out about positive, growth mindset. This motivational and inspirational show is filled with storytelling, humor, illusions and amazing yo-yo tricks to teach students the NED way--Never Give up, Encourage Others, and Do your best! CAPES has arranged for Chaparral students to get this experience for FREE; therefore, we will be selling NED yo-yos throughout the week as part of the “Pay It Forward” Assembly program. Please see the PeachJar flier (below) for more information about purchasing a NED yo-yo and consider supporting this great opportunity!

This Week! First Day of Fitness Club/Incentive Day – Tuesday, September 10th (Track)

The first day of Fitness Club is coming soon, and we couldn’t be more excited to see our Hawks back on the track!  It will also be our first monthly incentive day of the year, and students will need to complete at least 1 lap to receive a special incentive charm.  We will be running our regular schedule of Tuesdays/Thursdays/Fridays during the students’ lunch recess, so put on your sneakers, grab a buddy, and come out and see us on the track!  Please see the PeachJar flyer for an overview of Fitness Club.

Coming Soon! CAPES Board Meeting - Monday, September 16th @ 6 p.m. in MPR

Come hear about all that goes on behind the scenes at Chaparral and see how our fundraising dollars are spent.  Your voice matters, so please consider lending yours to our community of committed volunteers.  See you there!

Coming Soon! Green Envelope Week (Direct Donation Campaign) - September 16-20th

In order for the Chaparral Association of Parents and Educators for Students (CAPES) to support the cost of Chaparral programs such as Art, Music, PE, Innovation Lab, Academic Support, and Garden (and many more), we fundraise throughout the year. The first CAPES fundraiser is the “Green Envelope Week” Direct Donation Campaign. Next week, your child will come home with a Green Envelope and we will be asking you to charitably fill the envelope with a donation to CAPES. Throughout the week, we will highlight some of the programs that CAPES and your donations sponsor through dress-up Spirit Days:

Monday, September 16th: Express Yourself! Wear crazy socks or put flowers in your hair because CAPES sponsors the Art program, Music program, and Garden!

Wednesday, September 18th: Sports Day! Wear your favorite sports jersey or gear because CAPES sponsors the P.E. program and Fitness Club!

Friday, September 20th: Super Hawk Day! Wear your CHES spirit wear/character counts shirt and a superhero cape because CAPES volunteers are superheroes who sponsor Academic support, technology, Innovation Lab, and more!

In order to cover the annual cost of $125,000 that CAPES gives to Chaparral, our goal is to raise $150 per student. Please note that CAPES fundraising efforts are focused on three main fundraisers: Green Envelope Week (Direct Donation Campaign), APEX Fun Run (Pledge-based Jog-a-thon) and Auction (Parent Evening Event). We ask that each Chaparral family consider contributing $150 per child through any of these fundraisers in order to support Chaparral programs such as music, art, garden, P.E. and Innovation Lab. Therefore, if you are able to give $150 per child during Green Envelope Week in September, there is no obligation to fundraise for the Jog-a-thon in March or the Auction in April/May. Similarly, you may choose to wait until the Jog-a-thon or Auction to fulfill the suggested donation request to CAPES instead of donating as part of the Green Envelope Week direct donation campaign. You may also make the commitment to split your financial contribution over more than one fundraising opportunity (ex. $50 direct, $50 APEX, $50 Auction.) Finally, the only donation too small is no donation at all.  Thank you for your continued support and consideration.
