About Us

At the heart of our district’s mission is a promise to our children. Our data-driven school counseling program is more than just a support service—it is a foundational pillar that sustains the very heartbeat of our schools.

Our work is intentionally anchored in the district’s overall Vision: creating the culture and conditions to empower world-class learners. We recognize that for a student to become "world-class," they must first feel seen, supported, and safe. Our counselors bridge the gap between that vision and the daily student experience. By aligning directly with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, we ensure that every hallway, classroom, and campus supports our students in reaching their ultimate potential.

Comprehensive Counseling Program

Our Comprehensive Counseling program is strategically structured around the three core domains of the ASCA mission to ensure holistic student development:

  • Academic Success: Cultivating the mindsets and behaviors that help students engage deeply in their learning and achieve academic excellence.
  • College & Career Readiness: Guiding students as they explore their passions, map out their futures, and prepare for life beyond graduation.
  • Social & Emotional Development: Equipping students with the self-awareness, resilience, and interpersonal skills necessary to navigate the world with confidence.

The Poway Unified counseling team works in close, daily collaboration with school support teams, including administrators, teachers, school staff, Student Services Assistants (SSAs), Student Support Specialists (SSSs), school psychologists, and social workers.

Mission

The mission of the Poway Unified School District school counseling program is to inspire and prepare every student to thrive in college, career, and life by providing comprehensive data-driven services. School counselors serve our communities in the academic, college/career, and social/emotional domains, reaching all students in their individual pursuits of success. We recognize and celebrate our diverse communities and provide relevant and research-based interventions to support all learners and their needs TK-12.

Vision

Poway Unified students are resilient, critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Empowered by a growth mindset, strong coping strategies, and a community of resources, they advocate for themselves and forge their individual paths to what they personally define as success.
