Poway Unified Board Appoints Two New Principals

SAN DIEGO, CA - The Poway Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of two new school principals for the 2026–27 school year.

Gil Luna - Principal, Valley Elementary School

Gil Luna joins Valley Elementary School from the South Bay Union School District, where he has served as a bilingual educator and school leader. With more than 32 years in education, including 25 years as both a teacher and administrator, Mr. Luna has held leadership roles as Principal of Nestor Language Academy Charter School and Berry Elementary School. He earned a Master’s in Education from National University and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from San Diego State University. A collaborative and student-focused leader, Mr. Luna is dedicated to fostering academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and civic engagement while building strong partnerships with staff, families, and the community to support student success.

Lindsey Gordon - Principal, Deer Canyon Elementary School

Lindsey Gordon most recently served as Assistant Principal at Valley Middle School in the Carlsbad Unified School District. She brings 20 years of experience in education, including a distinguished career as an elementary school teacher beginning in 2004 and school leadership experience as an assistant principal. Ms. Gordon holds a Master of Arts in Education Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, both from California State University San Marcos. An experienced and collaborative leader, she is dedicated to creating positive school environments, building strong relationships with students, families, and staff, and advancing academic excellence through a culture of shared success and continuous improvement.
