Poway Unified Announces Four New Principal Appointments

SAN DIEGO, CA - The Poway Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of four new school leaders for the 2026–27 school year. These accomplished educators bring a wealth of experience and a shared dedication to building strong school communities where every student can thrive.

Katie Bendix - Principal, Westview High School

Katie Bendix joins Westview High School after serving as Principal of Deer Canyon Elementary School in the Poway Unified School District. Her experience includes school leadership in the San Dieguito Union High School District, along with roles as a teacher on special assignment and high school math teacher. She earned both her Master of Education and B.S. in Mathematics from University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Bendix is widely respected for her student-centered leadership, commitment to academic excellence, and focus on creating inclusive environments that support the whole child.

Cynthia Chambers - Principal, Creekside Elementary School

Cynthia Chambers has served as Assistant Principal at both Creekside Elementary School and Monterey Ridge Elementary School, bringing more than 18 years of experience in education to her new role. Her professional background spans both general and special education, giving her a broad and inclusive perspective on student learning and support. She earned a Master of Arts in Education from California State University San Marcos and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Chambers is recognized for her equity-driven leadership, strong instructional focus, and commitment to building school communities where all students feel a sense of belonging.

Michele Miller - Principal, Sundance Elementary School

With more than three decades in education, Michele Miller brings extensive experience in school and district leadership to her new role as Principal of Sundance Elementary School. Most recently, she served as Principal of Eagle Valley Elementary School in Colorado, following prior roles as an assistant principal, instructional support specialist, and classroom teacher. She holds a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Arts and Sciences from San Diego State University. Ms. Miller is known for cultivating positive school cultures, building strong relationships, and creating safe, supportive learning environments for students and staff alike.

Lisa Banuk - Principal, Painted Rock Elementary School

Lisa Banuk brings two decades of educational experience to her new role as Principal of Painted Rock Elementary School. Most recently, she served as Assistant Principal at Hewes Middle School in the Tustin Unified School District, following many years as a teacher in elementary and middle school settings and teacher on special assignment in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. She holds a Master of Education in Global Society from National University and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Communication from San Diego State University. Her leadership is grounded in equity, collaboration, and a belief in creating joyful learning environments where every student can succeed.
