The winter athletics season has wrapped up and all of the championships are in the books, marking one of the strongest overall athletic performances in recent memory for Poway Unified School District.
Many of our high school teams competed at the highest levels of CIF competition. Del Norte High School Boys Soccer, Westview High School Girls Basketball, and Mt. Carmel High School Girls Soccer all advanced to the Open Division. Del Norte Boys Soccer and Mt. Carmel Girls Soccer each captured Open Division Championships, reflecting exceptional performance against the region’s top programs.
Girls Soccer achieved an extraordinary clean sweep across divisions, with Mt. Carmel winning the Open Division, Westview securing the Division I title, and Del Norte earning the Division II championship.
Additional championship performances included Poway High School Boys Basketball winning the Division II title over Rancho Bernardo, and Mt. Carmel Boys Soccer earning the Division III championship.
Poway High Wrestling finished a strong season. Five girls qualified for the state tournament, along with 14 boys competitors representing all 14 weight classes. The boys team finished second overall in the state, with two individual state champions. On the girls side, one Poway athlete earned state runner-up honors.
Collectively, these accomplishments represent not only competitive success, but also the commitment, discipline, and teamwork of our student-athletes and coaches. It stands as one of PUSD’s most successful winter seasons and reflects the strength of our comprehensive athletic programs across the district.
