Mt. Carmel High Named Kindness Certified School

SAN DIEGO, CA—Mt. Carmel High School has been named a 2026 Kindness Certified School by the organization Kids for Peace, which hosts The Great Kindness Challenge annually across the country.

The Great Kindness Challenge offers schools tools to create a positive campus environment and proactively prevent bullying. During the week-long campaign, participating schools implement events and activities for students that support a culture of kindness. Last year, California schools participating in The Great Kindness Challenge shared more than 222 millions acts of kindness, according to Kids for Peace.

MCHS Principal Yael Bozzay says the certification recognizes their students’ enthusiasm to foster a welcoming environment for everyone.

“Mt. Carmel is known throughout the community for its strong school spirit and positive campus culture—that’s why it’s great to be a Sundevil,” says Bozzay. “This Kindness Certification is a symbol of Mt. Carmel’s ongoing commitment to kindness, community, and a welcoming campus environment. These values have helped build our strong reputation as a school where students feel connected, supported, and proud to belong.”

In addition to MCHS, several other Poway Unified schools participated in the campaign. Pomerado Elementary School teachers Paula Allison and Alisha Thomson recently shared how they implement kindness into their lesson plans with students on the district’s Straight from the Supe podcast, available to watch or listen to here.
