Poway Unified Announces Three New Leaders to Support Schools, Facilities, and Student Success

SAN DIEGO, CA – Poway Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of three accomplished leaders who bring extensive experience, proven leadership, and a strong commitment to student success.

Colin Young has been appointed Director of Human Resources, bringing more than 20 years of experience in education. He has served Poway Unified as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, and serves on the board of the Association of Poway School Managers (APSM). Young holds a Master of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in History from California State University San Marcos and completed the Personnel Administrators Academy through the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). A seasoned administrator and proven leader, he is dedicated to supporting school communities through effective human resources leadership and mentoring the next generation of educators.

Jessica Kimbrell joins Poway Unified with 27 years of experience in facilities planning, construction, and project management. She most recently served as the Director of Facilities Planning and Construction Management for the Carlsbad Unified School District and previously held the same role in the Escondido Union School District. Her background also includes extensive experience as a project manager and engineer for multiple construction firms. Kimbrell earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management from California State University San Marcos. She has overseen numerous large-scale modernization and construction projects and brings a strong track record of delivering safe, efficient, future-ready learning environments.

Principal, Morning Creek Elementary School - Kristin Sullens

Kristin Sullens has been appointed Principal of Morning Creek Elementary School, bringing 20 years of experience in education. She previously served as an assistant principal at Westwood Elementary School. Sullens has relevant background as a teacher and instructional coach, roles in which she led schoolwide efforts to strengthen instruction, improve student outcomes, and build inclusive and welcoming school communities. Sullens holds a Master of Arts in Education from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of San Diego. She is highly skilled in team leadership, data-informed decision-making, and long-term instructional planning that supports continuous growth for students and staff.
