Halloween Costume Guidelines

  • Costumes should be appropriate to a BMMS school day, and regular dress code standards apply.

  • No weapons of any kind, real or imagined, plastic or otherwise, may be included as part of a costume.

  • Students are not permitted to wear inflatable or blow-up costumes on campus.

  • No full-face masks or makeup may be worn during the school day. Students must be immediately recognizable as themselves.

  • Partial makeup may be used to represent fictional conditions (clown-face, witch-green skin, etc) but should not represent different human flesh tones.

  • Wigs may be used to represent fictional or historical characters with unrealistic hair (Ariel mermaid hair, George Washington wig, etc). Wigs should not be used to represent different human hair styles and textures.

  • Traditional cultural costumes are inappropriate for Halloween.

  • Costumes representing spiritual leaders and specific religious figures are inappropriate for Halloween.

These guidelines are intended to maintain a safe and supportive environment during one of our celebrated days of the year. We want each and every one of our students to have a respectful and enjoyable time during our celebration of Halloween. If you should have any questions or concerns about any costume that your child may be considering wearing on this day, please feel free to reach out to a School Administrator or educator for more information.
