SAN DIEGO, CA – Poway Unified School District is proud to celebrate Valley Elementary Parent Liaison and community volunteer Laura Gonzalez-Garcia, who was recently honored during Hispanic Heritage Month by the San Diego Honda Dealers for her extraordinary dedication to local families.
On September 18, staff, parents, and representatives from San Diego Honda Dealers’ “Random Acts of Helpfulness” program presented Laura with a generous donation of supplies, including Spanish-language books, art materials, composition notebooks, and a $500 gift card to purchase jackets and shoes for students in need. The unexpected recognition came after Poway Library staff nominated Laura for her tireless work building bridges across the community.
Laura was so shocked that, at first, she could not enter the room. Overwhelmed by the celebration, support, and donations, Laura told the room “The community deserves this!”
Beyond her role at Valley Elementary, Laura volunteers countless hours at the Poway Library, coordinating cultural celebrations such as Día de los Muertos, Diwali, Lotería, Día de los Niños, and more. She organizes donations, distributes technology and school supplies, and works with community partners, from the Sheriff’s Department to local health clinics, to ensure families have the support they need.
The supplies gifted by the Helpful Honda team will be put to immediate use supporting students and enhancing bilingual STEAM opportunities at Valley Elementary. Laura’s recognition highlights not only her extraordinary service but also Poway Unified’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and celebrating the rich diversity within its schools.
Through her daily actions, Laura Gonzalez-Garcia is exemplary in showing how meaningful change begins with dedicated individuals.
