The Absence Hotline is available 24 hours.  (858) 674-6300 press #2

EARLY CHECK OUT

Please try to schedule appointments after school hours.  Students arriving late to class or leaving class early disrupt the classroom.  If your student must leave campus early, please let the teacher know in the morning so they can have your student sent up to the office on time.  Please do not call the office to have your student dismissed, we will call when you arrive.

REMINDERS...

All visitors to our campus must check in through the Administration Office at the front of the school.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL?

Please take a few minutes at home to carefully check your child’s health before he/she leaves for school each morning. The following are a few suggestions, which may help to guide you:

REASONS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD AT HOME!

~Illness during the night
~Fever is present (100 degrees or greater)
~Complaints of nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, headache, diarrhea prior to leaving for school
~Development of a rash on face and/or body
~Has a severe cold, cough and/or sore throat
~Has inflamed eye(s) with discharge from them

Please Remember: An ill child cannot function properly in the classroom. The spread of illness and disease through class or school can be more easily monitored if sick children remain at home during the acute stage of an illness. If the school health tech detects any of the above, your child will be sent home.

People with influenza-like illness are to remain home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100o F [37.8o C]) without the use of fever-reducing medications.

A student’s absence should be reported on the School Absence Hotline by calling: (858) 674-6300 press #2.

Announcements for the week of April 13, 2014

Good Evening Grizzlies, this is Mrs. Huff with the Willow Grove weekly update. I hope all of you had a fun and safe holiday week. I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

REFLECTIONS AWARDS ~ DREAM, BELIEVE, INSPIRE

Congratulations to our Reflections winners! We are so proud of our amazing Grizzly artists who received an award at Friday Flag on April 4th.

BOOK TALK

Our next Book Talk guest will be Max Chen from Miss Goehring's 1st grade class who will give his review and opinion of the book The Knight at Dawn on Wednesday, April 16th.

SBAC TESTING

SBAC testing begins tomorrow, April 14th. All Grizzlies in grades 3-5 will participate in SBAC testing. By now, you should have been notified by your child's teacher regarding his or her testing dates. Preparation for the SBAC is not necessary. Absenteeism during the testing can create problems for some students. Those who miss testing sessions with their regular class will be given make-up sessions in supervised small group settings. However, most students prefer to take the test along with their classmates. We are asking for your help, for we know that when parents and school work together, children do immeasurably better. We recognize the important contribution parents make towards a child's success in school, and we appreciate your support.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN & KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

This is a reminder of the upcoming TK/Kindergarten Orientation which will be held in the Willow Grove multipurpose room on Thursday April 17th from 2-3 p.m. This orientation is for parents of incoming Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students for our next school year. The purpose of this meeting is to inform you of some of the best ways to help prepare your child for a successful kindergarten year. You will also be informed of immunization requirements, required documents as well as enrollment dates and times.

TEXTILE RECYCLING

Hey Grizzlies! Have you outgrown your clothes and shoes this year? Clean out your closets and bring your clothes and shoes in large trash bags to school. We will donate or recycle them while raising funds for Fifth Grade promotion. The deadline for donations is this Friday, April 18th.

GRIZZLY STREET SCENE ARTWORK

Be sure to turn in your "Grizzly Graffiti" of your first name to your teacher no later than Wednesday, April 30th. By participating in this fun art project, you will receive a special treat and have your artwork displayed at Grizzly Street Scene!

ROBOTICS NIGHT COMING!

Save the date for Robotics Night on May 5th. More information will be coming home with your child this Friday.

ART SHOW & USED BOOK SALE

The Art Show and Used Book Sale will be Monday, May 12th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Save the date! At this point, we are only collecting children's books to sell.
