EARLY CHECK OUT

Please try to schedule appointments after school hours.  Students arriving late to class or leaving class early disrupt the classroom.  If your student must leave campus early, please let the teacher know in the morning so they can have your student sent up to the office on time.  Please do not call the office to have your student dismissed, we will call when you arrive.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL?

Please take a few minutes at home to carefully check your child’s health before he/she leaves for school each morning. The following are a few suggestions, which may help to guide you:

REASONS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD AT HOME!

~Illness during the night
~Fever is present (100 degrees or greater)
~Complaints of nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, headache, diarrhea prior to leaving for school
~Development of a rash on face and/or body
~Has a severe cold, cough and/or sore throat
~Has inflamed eye(s) with discharge from them

Please Remember: An ill child cannot function properly in the classroom. The spread of illness and disease through class or school can be more easily monitored if sick children remain at home during the acute stage of an illness. If the school health tech detects any of the above, your child will be sent home.

People with influenza-like illness are to remain home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100o F [37.8o C]) without the use of fever-reducing medications.

A student’s absence should be reported on the School Absence Hotline by calling: (858) 674-6300 press #2.

Homework can also be requested on this phone message, please indicate when you will be picking it up.

UPDATED KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION          May 16, 2013

Thank you for registering your students at Willow Grove. At this time our Kindergarten enrollment has exceeded our capacity for new enrollment. We will need to institute a lottery to determine the placement of our Kindergarten students. Any student who is not placed at the time of the lottery will be provisionally enrolled at Willow Grove and placed on a wait list for return to Willow Grove. All students not placed will be given a right of return no later than the end of their Kindergarten year or when openings occur during the 2013-2014 school year.

We will be contacting parents by mail to indicate whether their child will be either placed in Willow Grove Elementary or will be placed on the provisional wait list no later than May 28, 2013

Happy Staff Appreciation Week! We have three days packed full of ways we are going to show the staff how thankful we are. Monday PTA is providing a sweet and savory treat for teachers and staff; Tuesday students will wear their teacher’s favorite color and bring in a flower complimented with breakfast for the staff; and Wednesday is a luncheon for the entire staff.

2013-2014 PARENTAL INPUT FORMS DUE TOMORROW, MONDAY, MAY 20th

Please feel free to share with us what you believe would be the best learning environment for your child. The form is available on our website or front office. If you are interested in providing input, please print and complete the form. (Please complete one form per child.) This form must be turned in to the school office no later than 3:30 PM on Monday, May 20th . Forms will not be accepted after this date.

Big congratulations to Maria Kounnas in being selected as Willow Grove’s Volunteer of the Year! We thank her for all her dedication to Willow Grove and the amazing science activities she plans for all the students and families.

 UPCOMING HOLIDAY REMINDER JUST A REMINDER.

Monday, May 27th is a holiday as we will be celebrating Memorial Day.

 CONTINUING STUDENT REGISTRATION IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

Registration for all students who will once again be attending WGES (current K-4 students) is fast approaching. This is an annual process that is required of every PUSD student. The process will only require a short stop into school to drop off your forms and complete an additional form which is not available on line. This date replaces the registration that was previously held in August. Please check the Willow Grove homepage for specific dates, times and procedure information. ***Please note that we will not be able to place your student in a classroom for next year unless the forms have been completed and turned in during the dates listed below.

THREE STEPS TO FOLLOW

Step 1 Go to http://www.powayusd.com/registration/ Print and complete the following form(s) (1) Signature Verification (note: 4th & 5th grade students must also sign) (2) Student Health Info (4th Grade Only) Step 2 Return the completed forms to WGES on the date assigned based on your last name (see above). Once at school, you will also be asked to review and sign the Student Enrollment Form, which will be provided to you at school.

BAND CONCERT COMING MAY 29th!

Reminder for parents of 5th grade band and orchestra students: You are invited to the spring music concert on Wednesday, May 29 at 6:30pm in the Willow Grove multi-purpose room. Strings students' arrival time is 5:30pm and band students' arrival time is 6:00pm. Doors for audience seating will open 5 minutes prior to concert time. Please have your child dress nicely for the evening concert. In addition, students will perform an assembly for the school the same morning. Our final music class will be May 29.

ATTENTION FIFTH GRADE PARENTS!!

Mark your calendars for The Fifth Grade Promotion that will be on Wednesday, June 12th at 10am. Parking will be limited so be sure to plan ahead. Please note: Unfortunately balloons set off our fire alarm so no balloons of any kind will be allowed on campus. We don’t want anything disrupting this special event. Any balloons brought on campus will be sent back out to the car. Thanks for your understanding.
