Tumblebooks is offering a free trial to all teachers and students in
Poway Unified this summer. It is a wonderful and legitimate offer. The
program has some excellent books and many options for students to have
the book read to them or to read along silently. They have many books
in Spanish and French as well.
Students can also take quizzes and create
book reports.
This offer is only good for the summer. Our free trial ends August 31.

POWAY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Integrated Preschool Opportunity
Poway Unified School District is pleased to
offer for the 2009-2010 school year, Integrated Preschool Programs at
Pomerado Elementary and Deer Canyon Elementary schools. They will serve
3 to 5 year old children with and without special needs. A general
education developmental curriculum will include both large and small
group circle time, play, and language activities. Other skills and
activities that are introduced are music and rhythm, self help skills,
thinking skills, language arts, social skills, number concepts, gross
and fine motor skills. The children who have special needs may
experience difficulty in one or more of the following areas: speech and
language, play skills, and social skills. The success of the integrated
program greatly depends on the inclusion of children without special
needs who act as models as all children learn together.
All children in the preschool programs will work as
an integrated group. They will have opportunities to work and play
together in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. The
curriculum is play-based, which means that children are encouraged to
play together in a way that leads to growth and development.
Our preschool staff will meet with you and arrange a
class visitation and provide information about enrollment.
Class Time: M-F, 5 hours per day (Alternate times will be
considered)
Options: 3 and 5 day options available.
Cost: Five day program is $310 a month. Prorated rates are
available for other options. There is also a one time,
non-refundable $50 registration fee.
Currently, there are openings available and
registration will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. If
interested, please contact Barbie Shrier at 858-668-4103.
There will be on-going registration for the Parent Participation
Preschool, until we are full. For more information call Mrs. Kempter at
486-9170 or Vivian at the district office, 748-0010, X2722.
PARENT RESOURCE GUIDES HELP
PARENTS UNDERSTAND GRADE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS AND

The Parent Resource Guides were created
to correspond to the new Elementary Progress Reports. For each grade
level standard there are links that will provide instruction and
practice opportunities for students.
You can choose to make a

Pomerado has a newStudent
Emergency Release Plan. Please make sure that you read
the procedures, so we are all prepared in case of an emergency.
Pomerado is using a system
called ConnectED to call our families with important recorded
messages. Once in a while, when listening to a message please be aware
that the background noise at the receiving end may cause the system to
stop and restart or it may cause the message to stutter and repeat. It
is calibrated very delicately to determine whether a person or an
answering machine is responding to the ConnectED phone call. If possible
move to a quiet area, or press the “mute” button on your phone. Also, if
you missed any part of a message, please stay on the line and press “*”
(star) to hear the message again.
Please take a few minutes at home to
carefully check your child’s health before he/she leaves for school each
morning. The following are a few suggestions, which may help to guide
you:
REASONS FOR KEEPING YOUR CHILD
HOME:
Illness during the night
Fever is present (100 degrees or
greater)
Complaints of nausea, upset stomach,
vomiting, headache, diarrhea prior to leaving for school
Development of a rash on face and/or
body
Has a severe cold, cough and/or sore
throat
Has inflamed eye(s) with discharge
from them
Please Remember: An ill
child cannot function properly in the classroom. The spread of
illness and disease through class or school can be more easily monitored
if sick children remain at home during the acute stage of an illness. If
the school health tech detects any of the above, your child will be sent
home.
A student’s absence should be reported
on the School Absence Hotline by calling: 858-679-2604.
Homework can also be requested on this
phone message, please indicate when you will be picking it up.
