10/22/2009 The poll results showed that most of you agreed we should keep the book. Out of respect and truthfulness, I will annotate the catalog record for the book and put it in the fiction section.

Fragments poll results

10/19/09: The questions Fragments raises are concerns about repressed memory and trauma therapy, problems surrounding autobiographies and memoirs, truths behind oral history and primary source materials. Since the book was published dozens of articles and several books have been written debating the concerns. Many libraries across San Diego have retained the book in their collection, changing the shelfing location and subject headings from nonfiction to fiction. They have purposely decided to keep the book. What do you think the PHS Library should do with the book? Make your opinions known. Take the poll and let your voice be heard in the comments area.

Questions surrounding the merits of the work continue to be raised by historians and literary scholars. The truthfulness of the book is no longer in question but does what remains still have value? Historian, Froama Zeitlin states Fragments "merits' reside in a ferocious vision, a powerful narrative, an accumulation of indelible images, and the unforgettable way in which a small child's voice is deployed in an unfeeling adult world, during the war and thereafter”.
