FIRST WEEK
The first week (well, three days) of school is now over. We all want to
say thanks for helping us get the school year off to a seamless start.
Thanks to all the volunteers who stayed in our Kindergarten classes to
offer a helping hand to those students who needed a little comfort in
their transition to school. A huge thanks is also owed to all our
students for taking on the charge of learning with great energy. We are
certain this is going to be a great year.

MRES FOUNDATION
HELP US RAISE FUNDS TO ADDRESS INCREASED CLASS SIZES AND FUND ADDITIONAL
TEACHING SUPPORT (IMPACT TEACHERS)
As you know, class sizes have once again risen this year. In an effort
to address the increased class sizes and provide more targeted support
and enrichment for our students, one of the areas our Foundation will be
focusing on is raising funds to support the hiring of additional
teachers (IMPACT teachers). To this effort, MREF has generously given
$5000 to help us begin this focus. Our goal is to provide support to all
grades by bringing back certificated teachers who work with small groups
to reduce our class sizes and provide more opportunities to engage all
students. Please support our Foundation's efforts to help us raise funds
to ensure that this reality can be maintained all year. Checks can be
made out to the MRES Foundation.
MRES PTA
Playground Partners
I am extremely excited to share with you that once again the PTA is
sponsoring our Playground Partners lunch program. Our PTA is generously
funding this program which will place one YMCA staff member on our
campus to train and help our parents run structured sports, games, and
activities at lunch. The goal is to help with conflict resolution, peer
to peer relationships, role modeling, and, of course, engaging our
students in organized and structured physical activities. To make this
program a success we need YOUR help. We need two to three parent
volunteers per day to help effectively run the program. If you or any
members of your family (grandparents, uncles, aunts) are available to
volunteer any amount of time please let us know.
Membership
Have you joined the PTA yet? Our PTA is essential to bringing so many
programs to campus. Your membership goes a long way in supporting your
students and their enrichment at school.
Ice Cream Sales
Ice Cream Sales continue every Wednesday after school at the lunch
tables. Ice Cream is $1 and all proceeds go to the PTA to help fund many
school programs! Are you interested in volunteering with ice cream
sales.
NO SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 6th
Please not that there will be no school on Monday, September 6 in honor
of Labor Day.
| Whooping Cough/Pertussis The entire state is currently experiencing an epidemic of whooping cough cases which is the common name for pertussis. Whooping cough is a bacterial respiratory illness characterized by severe spasms of coughing that can last for several weeks or even for months. Whooping cough is usually spread from person-to-person through close contact with respiratory droplets released when a person coughs or sneezes. Whooping cough, which gets its name from the noise children make when they gasp for breath between violent coughs, can be deadly in infants under the age of 12 months. It is usually just an annoying illness in older children and adults, although it can turn into bronchitis or other lung infections. The best way to prevent the disease is with vaccination. Infants begin receiving this vaccine at two months of age. By the time children reach young adulthood, they no longer have the immunity and require a booster. A vaccine for older children and adults became available in 2005. Parents can protect their infants and children by checking with their health care provider to make sure that all family members’ immunizations are up to date. For the most recent local information or local immunization clinics please go to the County of San Diego Public Health Department’s Immunization website at www.sdiz.org |
