Principal’s Message

August 31, 2015

Greetings Del Sur Explorers!

I was delighted to see so many parents at our Back to School meetings during the first and second week of school. This was a great evening where our teachers were able to meet parents and discuss the curriculum and classroom structure for the year. We thank you so much for your support and look forward to working together on your child’s educational journey this year.
During the month of September, our school will be focusing on the character pillar of “Responsibility”. Through a variety of discussions and lessons, we share with our students that it is following the Explorer Way when students do what they are supposed to do, work hard and try to do their best, and think about how their actions will affect others. Parents, thank you for supporting our work with this character pillar at home with your children. We will be highlighting this character pillar at this week’s Friday Flag which begins at 8:30 am on the blacktop - weather permitting.
I am looking for one additional parent to serve on this year’s Del Sur Site Council Committee. The responsibilities of serving on our Site Council is to serve as a representative of our parents when meeting with myself and other staff members approximately five times throughout the year to help create our school wide goals, review academic data, and develop and review our Parent Perception Survey. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please call or email me.
I am excited to offer an exciting math opportunity for all of our third through fifth grade students and other high achieving second grade math students this year. Think about having your child participate in the Math Olympiad Contest at Del Sur. This program serves as an opportunity for children “to participate in creative problem solving which develop a child’s ability to reason, to be logical, to be resourceful, and occasionally to be ingenious.” One can see some sample problems at http://www.moems.org/program.htm. If interested plan on attending an informational meeting Thursday, September 10 beginning at 6:30 pm in the multipurpose room.
