Greetings Del Sur Explorers!

I trust that all of you have had an enjoyable February break. It is always wonderful to have some quality time to be with your family and friends.

Today, I launched the spring Principal’s Reading Challenge to our students. As in the fall, it will run for seven weeks concluding on Friday, April 17th. I thank you parents in advance in partnering with your child in encouraging him or her to meet and ultimately exceed their individual reading goal. This challenge always has spurred our students to spend more time reading.

On Thursday, February 26th, beginning at 6:00 pm in the multipurpose room, I invite all of our parents to attend our next General PTA and Foundation meeting. I also will take time to share information on the state of our school and where I believe we are going as a school community. This state of the school address is always an important time where I have a chance to share our school’s vision. Additionally, I am also very excited to hear from parents in terms of their thoughts. Students from our school from various grade levels will be sharing some of their learning throughout the presentation. Please plan on being in attendance to be a vital voice in framing the future of our school. I also will be meeting with parents after Friday Flag on February 27th to further this discussion during my next Principal’s Coffee.

On Saturday, March 14th, from 10 am to 4 pm Cal State San Marcos will be hosting a Super Stem Saturday.  This is a great opportunity for you and your students to participate and explore over 75 interactive demonstrations and hands-on science activities.  This event will include: rocket launches, build-a-robot stations, model displays, scientist chats and animal encounters.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  For more information please visit

5th Annual Science Fair – Friday, March 27th

It is Science Fair time once again at Del Sur. Parents, I invite you to involve your student in completing a science fair project. This year’s fair will take place on Friday, March 27th. Please see the attached information packet for specific information about our science fair. The Science Fair projects will be on display for parent viewing in the afternoon from 2:00pm to 4pm.  Projects are expected to remain at school during that time so they may be viewed by all parents and students.  All projects may be taken home the following Monday, March 30.    

Student Council Leprechaun Trap – Saint Patrick’s Day 3/17

The DSES Student Council is hosting a leprechaun trap competition on Saint Patrick's Day. This will be open to grades K-5. We are also encouraging students to wear green on Saint Patrick's Day. We hope that a lot of students participate!

A detailed flier on how to participate in the St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Trap contest will be available on March 1st.

DSE Foundation's Night at the Ranch - Havana Nights

Throw on your tropical whites, grab your fedoras and dance the night away at this year's Night at the Ranch - Havana Nights, held on March 28 from 5pm to 10pm at the Ranch House. Tickets are $50 per person (includes entrance, food and 1 drink ticket). ALL PROCEEDS benefit Del Sur Elementary School's Art, Music and Technology programs. The evening will include casino tables, live & silent auctions, food, libations, entertainment, raffles and more! Pre-order Your Yearbooks Now!!

The 2014-2015 school yearbook is now available for pre-order. By pre-ordering your yearbooks, you guarantee that your child(ren) will receive their yearbook delivered in classroom the last week of school. There will be a very limited amount of yearbooks available for first-come-first-serve sales the last week of school for $30 CASH ONLY. We will not be accepting checks for yearbook sales or pre-orders. Pre-ordering starts NOW and goes through Friday, April 3. Finish Chelsea’s Run – Saturday, March 7th at Balboa Park

Join team Del Sur Explorers to support Chelsea’s Run.  All grades pre-k to 5th are welcome to participate.  Our goal is for 100 students to register.  Please help us reach our goal.

As a reminder, this is not a school sponsored event.  Therefore the school is not responsible for the students at the event.  A parent or responsible adult must be present with the student the duration of the Finish Chelsea's Run.  There will be over 100,000 people at this race and your child's safety is a priority.  We highly encourage that you sign-up and register as a team member, however, understand that your child may want to run with his peers or realistically out-run the adults, in general.  Please ensure that you communicate with your child your meeting place after the race.

Please) 10 unexpired Box Top or 10 points worth of Labels for Education UPCs to the St. Patrick's Day sheet attached.  Each filled sheet will earn you a coupon for a free Otter Pop, a raffle entry for your teacher, and fill your class’s pot with gold.  All sheets must be turned in by Friday March 20th.  The top 3 classes with the most submissions will win gift cards for their teacher. Ralphs Card Linking Contest The PTA is sponsoring a contest to see which class can get the most people to link their Ralphs card to Del Sur Elementary PTA.

All you need to do is bring in the bottom portion of your Ralphs receipt that says, “At your request, Ralphs is donating to Del Sur Elementary PTA”  Make sure to also write your child’s last name somewhere on the receipt so that we can keep track of the submissions. 

It's not too late - Please re-link your Ralph's card to Del Sur today! Earning over $12,000 last year, this income is vital to the "extras" your children enjoy, such as guest speakers, special projects, field trip off-sets, etc...
