Greetings Explorer Families!
I would like to thank all of the parents who were able
to join us at our PTA/Foundation General Association meeting last Thursday
evening. We are very fortunate to have such a strong PTA and Foundation who
work so hard to provide programs that enhance the educational experience of
our students on a daily basis. Let’s all continue to support these two
organizations. I also had a chance to speak to parents about our S.T.E.A.M
program at our school this year. I am so happy to report that our teachers
and staff are implementing very exciting curricular approaches that
integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. I am also
so thankful to a number of parents who have been working very hard in
setting up our Science supply center. Parents who have agreed to serve on
our Science Core group will be contacted soon to help us deliver hands-on
materials that our teachers can utilize in their S.T.E.A.M programs.

Del Sur PTA Reflections 2014-2015 - Deadline Friday, October 17
This year Del Sur PTA is pleased to be sponsoring the National PTA Reflections Program. The Reflections Program is an Art Expression and Recognition program for students to compete on expressing their perspective of a theme through Art. There are several categories: Literature, Visual Art, Film Production, Photography, Dance, and Music Composition. All You Can Read Diner – Oct. 9th 6-7:30pm
It's almost that time for the "All You Can Read Diner" ...where teachers serve up "books" instead of burgers. Come see your teachers, our fantastic librarian Mrs. O., and our wonderful Principal, Mr. Johnson, dressed in our fifties best. The Diner Doors open on Thursday, October 9th from 6-7:30 and to make actual dining easy, food trucks will be available at 5pm in the school parking lot. So, save the date for October 9th for the All You Can Read Diner!
The purpose of the GATE services in
the Poway Unified School District is to identify and motivate highly able
students to realize their full potential. Gifted students are higher level
thinkers who demonstrate depth, originality, and creativity in their
thoughts. GATE students have common characteristics but often unique needs.
In order to meet the needs of GATE students all day, classroom teachers
differentiate the curriculum as needed. Differentiated instruction is
individualized based on what the student is showing in class. Some
techniques utilized in the classrooms are cluster grouping, varying the pace
of instruction, compacting the curriculum, higher level questioning, and
activities that are open ended.
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) involves services for students whose cognitive needs may require modified classroom curriculum and instruction to accommodate their learning differences and ensure their achievement. Parents may request GATE testing for students in grades 2-7.

Please tape or glue (NO STAPLES! Please) 10 unexpired Box Top or 10 points worth of Labels for Education UPCs to the Bus collection sheet attached. Each filled sheet will earn you a coupon for a free Otter Pop, a raffle entry for your teacher, and move your classes bus closer to a prize. All sheets must be turned in by Wednesday, October 22nd.
