Greetings Explorer Families!

I would like to thank the many families who attended our December Nights event last week. We all had a great time hearing from Mr. Shapira, the author of Danny Dog, officially opening our new Friends of the Library Used Book Store, watching a movie in the MPR, and offering parents an opportunity to learn more about some of our technology programs for our students. It was a wonderful evening.

We are going to try to have Friday Flag at the end of this week - weather permitting. All parents are invited to attend.

Continue to be a supportive partner in your child’s education. We appreciate all of your efforts. Once again, best wishes during the holiday season. Make some lasting memories with your precious children.

PTA DINE OUT EVENT AT NAPIZZA! - Mark your calendars for Tuesdays in December.   NAPIZZA will donate 10% of your food and beverage order EVERY TUESDAY IN DECEMBER from 3-9pm!!!   No flyer is needed, just mention Del Sur Elementary at the register.  Come support your school and enjoy Tuesday nights at NAPIZZA all December long!   


Our annual yearbook is typically put together by a small team of volunteers. However, this year we have had NO volunteers stepping-up to help. We are in serious need of help as one person cannot do the entire yearbook. Also, our current chairperson is a fifth grade parent who will be leaving us at the end of this school year. So we need someone (or a few people) trained on the systems that were put together to ensure we have a yearbook this year and next year. Here is what we are looking for:

  • A person who is organized and can communicate effectively via email and face-to-face with teachers, staff, volunteers, and yearbook company.
  • A person who is available to coordinate volunteers for various things such as photography, design, yearbook cover voting, end of year sales and so on.
  • A person who can show up at yearbook related events such as sales and voting.
  • It's a plus if this person has the ability to take some great photos and can be on campus during important functions such as Halloween, Red Ribbon Week, 5th Grade Band/Orchestra performances, etc. Of course, coordinating the classroom parent volunteers to upload photos is also good if you can't take photos.
  • It's a plus if this person can do some design work - though not a requirement.

The company we work with, Memory Book, has an amazingly simple online system for creating books. You need not be a designer! If you can click, drag/drop and type...then you can use this yearbook creating system online. The entire yearbook process from the beginning of the year to the end of the year has been systemized. All you need to do is follow the system (or refine/create your own) to be a co-chair or chairperson.

Please consider being on the yearbook committee! It's fun, and comes with perks, like being the first person(s) to see the yearbook, and your kids will absolutely LOVE that you worked on it. We need committed volunteers NOW...otherwise there is a great chance that our yearbook will not be as great this year, and next year we may not have one. Please contact Dena DiSarro (PTA President) or Colleen Connery (Yearbook Chairperson) if interested in helping ASAP! THANK YOU!

Box Tops and Labels for Education Contest
Our second contest is now underway -
"Let’s Build a Snowman with Box Tops and Labels For Education!"  Each team’s snowman will earn a piece by sending in their Box Tops, Labels for Education, Sunny D, Prang Power, and My Coke Rewards points.  This contest will be a TEAM contest, with each teacher of the winning team receiving a $30 gift card.  All sheets must be turned in by Wednesday January 7th in order to be counted. A new collection sheet is attached above.  REMINDER:  Expired Box Tops and Labels for Education without the UPC code do not count! And, please, NO staples.

Ralphs Card Linking Contest The PTA is sponsoring a contest to see which class can get the most people to link their Ralphs card to Del Sur Elementary PTA.

All you need to do is bring in the bottom portion of your Ralphs receipt that says, “At your request, Ralphs is donating to Del Sur Elementary PTA”  Make sure to also write your child’s last name somewhere on the receipt so that we can keep track of the submissions. 

It's not too late - Please re-link your Ralph's card to Del Sur today! Earning over $12,000 last year, this income is vital to the "extras" your children enjoy, such as guest speakers, special projects, field trip off-sets, etc...

1) Visiting to renew your contribution 
(Detailed step-by-step instructions with screen shots can be found on the PTA website
2) Taking the scanbar code from your "Free Fundraiser" flier with you on your next shopping trip, and give to the cashier at checkout.
