Greetings Explorer Families,

We would like to thank our incredible PTA for spoiling all staff last week during Staff Appreciation Week. We all felt so special with the outpouring of food and gifts throughout the week. We are so privileged to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful students and families in the Del Sur community.

On behalf of our PTA, I would like to thank all of you for supporting our APEX Fun Run fundraiser. We are off to a great start with only three days remaining. Via our yearly Fun Run, we utilize funds garnered from this event to pay the salary for our amazing physical education teacher – Mrs. Santiago. We are also raising funds to purchase technology which consistently is an ongoing need at every school site. Specifically, we are in need of more Chromebooks for our third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Thank you so much for your continued support of our endeavors. If you have time, come out and watch your child run on Thursday. The following are the running times for each grade level:

 8:40 – 9:30 Preschool, TK, and Kindergarten
 9:30 – 10:20 K/1, First, and Second Grades
 10:20 – 11:10 Third and Fourth Grades
 11:10 – 12:00 Fifth Grade

As a key reminder, this coming Friday, May 22 will be a minimum day at Del Sur with students being dismissed at 12:15 pm. In the afternoon of this day, the teachers and I will be involved in professional development activities concerning the new Common Core Standards in English Language Arts.

Thank you parents of our third, fourth, and fifth grade students for helping your child perform at their optimum level on this year’s SBAC assessments. We have now completed all of the English Language Arts testing. For the next two weeks, our students will be testing in the area of mathematics. Thank you for your help in preparing your child to perform at their optimum best by getting them to bed early and providing them a nutritious breakfast before the day of their test.

Del Sur Textile Drive
We need your support! We have a No Cost, No Buying, No Selling fundraiser organized with Ripple Textiles! It’s fun! It’s easy!
Clean out your closets and donate your gently used, unwanted clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, and books to our fundraiser.
We earn $$ for every pound we collect!! We are supporting STEAM Curriculum Enhancements for our classrooms.

Place your textiles in a large trash bag, drive up to the Del Sur Drop off lane, and our volunteers will unload your goods! It’s as simple as that!

Our Honored Hero
Del Sur is walking for Crohn’s & Colitis. Join us on May 16th at 4:00pm for a family-friendly festival, and a 3 mile walk around the beautiful harbor of NTC-Liberty Station. The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America will be honoring our very own student, Graham Wilson, as the 2015 Honored Hero for Take Steps San Diego! Del Sur Heritage Night
On Thursday, May 28, 2015, Del Sur will be celebrating our school’s multi-cultural diversity with our first Heritage Night (6:00PM-8:00PM). It will be an exciting event that will showcase the many different countries that represent our students’ heritage. We look forward to your attendance! There will be food, activities, performances, arts and crafts, and lots of fun and learning! Mark your calendars today.
Heritage Poster Project
Your child has a unique opportunity to contribute to our event by participating in a Heritage Poster Project. This optional assignment can be a family project and is a wonderful way to share your cultural background and history with other Del Sur families. Please see the attachments for details. Submissions are due by May 28th. Students will receive a certificate and a ribbon for their participation.

LAST PTA DINE OUT EVENT OF THE YEAR!! - Mark your calendars for Thursday, MAY 28TH for a Dine-Out at AT PANERA 4S Ranch! This DINE OUT will be from 4pm-8pm. Panera will donate a percentage of your food and beverage orders to the Del Sur Elementary PTA. The flyer is attached. A physical or digital copy must be presented on 5/28/15 for the donation. Come out to support your school and enjoy a night of friends and family!

Box Tops and Labels for Education Contest - NEW INFO!!!
Our 4th contest is now underway -"I Scream, you Scream, we all Scream for Box Tops and Labels For Education!" Each team’s ice cream cone will earn a scoop every 50 points by sending in their Box Tops, Labels for Education, Sunny D, Prang Power, and My Coke Rewards points. This contest will be a TEAM contest, with each teacher of the winning team receiving a $30 gift card. All points must be turned in by Wednesday June 3rd in order to be counted. We will no longer be using collection sheets. Please submit your Box Tops, Labels for Education, Sunny D, Prang Power, and My Coke Rewards points in an envelope or plastic bag. Don't forget to put your teachers name on the outside a well as how many items are in your bag/envelope. REMINDER: Expired Box Tops and Labels for Education without the UPC code do not count!
