This week our PTA sponsored Book Fair will once again commence in our library. Parents, students, and community members are invited to come and purchase some amazing new books from Scholastic. Also, your family will not want to miss our upcoming literacy night titled – “The All You Can Read Diner” on Thursday, October 8 beginning at 6:00 pm. This is a very special evening where staff member serve “books” to families as we encourage broad reading in our community.
At this week’s Friday Flag assembly, I will be kicking off my fall Principal’s Reading Challenge. This challenge is for all first through fifth grade students. I will challenge all of our students to meet or exceed their required number of Accelerated Reader points for the seven week time period. The fall challenge will officially begin Monday, October 5 and conclude on Friday, December 4. Teachers will be relaying your child’s target number of points needed during the next few days. Traditionally over 95% of our students indeed do meet or exceed their required point total. Thanks parents for partnering with your child to see that he or she is successful in this challenge.
It's not too late for your student to begin a REFLECTIONS ART CONTEST entry. Students may enter this nation-wide art contest in six different categories: visual arts, literature, photography, film, music, and dance. Entries are due on October 7th to your teacher. Artwork submitted will be eligible for prizes and recognition at the school, district, state, and national levels. The fabulous 50's are making a comeback at Del Sur! Dig out your best poodle skirt and cuff your jeans for the All You Can Read Diner on October 8th from 5:45-7:30pm. Mr. Johnson, your teachers, and librarian will be dressed to impress in their best 50's attire as they serve you up books instead of burgers! We have some new titles on the menu so come on over and bring your reading appetite! Diner doors open at 5:45 pm but food trucks will be here at 5:30-6:45 for your dining convenience. Sacramento Trip for 4th and 5th Grade Students

Box Top Contest
Let’s kick off a great school year with Box Tops and
Labels For Education!!
Welcome back Explorers! Our first contest of the year will be an individual contest with the top 3 classes winning gift cards for their teachers. We will also be having raffle prizes that include free books and staples rewards for teachers.
Each class’ football will move 10 yards for every 50 points by sending in their Box Tops, Labels for Education, Sunny D, Prang Power, Tyson A++, ink cartridges and My Coke Rewards points. For every 10 points your student turns in, they will receive a coupon for a free otter pop and move their class’ football closer to a touchdown. This contest will be a class contest, with each teacher of the top 3 class winning a gift card. All points must be turned in by Wednesday, November 4th in order to be counted. We will no longer be using collection sheets. Please submit your Box Tops, Labels for Education, Sunny D, Prang Power, My Coke Rewards points, etc… in an envelope or plastic bag. Don't forget to put your teacher’s name on the outside as well as how many items are in your bag/envelope.
REMINDER: Expired Box Tops and Labels for Education without the UPC code do not count!

It's time to re-link your Ralph's card to Del Sur Elementary!
Everyone must re-link their Ralph's card to DSE as of Sept. 1st. Your purchases will NOT earn money for Del Sur until you re-link! It's quick, easy, and earned over $12,000 last year for our school! This income is vital to the "extras" your children enjoy, such as guest speakers, special projects, field trip off-sets, etc...Please do so today! Don't forget to remind your friends and family too!
