Week of October 27th
With Halloween fast approaching, please note that while we do encourage students to dress up and wear their costumes, we ask that you remember the following: no blood, no weapons, no props, and no full-faced masks. Thank you for your help in making this a fun, safe day for everyone!
Please join us on Friday, October 31st for our Community Gathering. We'll be out on the blacktop from 9:00am - 9:20am. We'll see you there!
The next session of KidzTyme classes will be starting soon – November 3rd! Kidztyme is offering a wide variety of fun and educational after-school enrichment classes. This session’s list of classes includes: crafts, science, soccer, drawing, chess, martial arts, piano, Spanish, etiquette, robotics, clay, and tennis. All classes take place on the Chaparral campus. To read more about the classes and to register, please visit www.kidztyme.org.
If your child rides a bike or a scooter to school, please remember that per DMV code and PUSD policy, properly fitting safety helmets are required. This is for the protection of your students as there are many cars on our streets before and after school. Please make sure that your child wears a helmet if they are riding bikes or scooters. More information on bicycle safety, as well as a Student Bicycle Permit, is available in the front office.

Chaparral Reminders & PTA/CEF Announcements
Red Ribbon/Character Counts Week
This year Chaparral is combining Red Ribbon and Character Counts week into one meaningful project to share information and activities with students in an effort to make a lifelong impact on their health, safety, and wellness.
Volunteers are needed to help with lunch time activities Monday through Thursday (Oct. 27 to 30) that range from stress relief guided imagery to a character scavenger hunt. Sign up now to be a part of this unique opportunity to raise awareness and continue to cultivate healthy choices. Click here for the Volunteer Spot sign up.
Spirit day themes are: “Turn Your Back Against Drugs” (backwards dress) on Monday, Oct. 27 and “Crazy From Head to Toe, As To Drugs, We Say NO!” (crazy hair, crazy socks - crazy anything head to toe) on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Spirit Wear Special Tech Tee
There are only a few days left to place your order for the exclusive Fitness Club tech tee. (View photos on the Chaparral Spirit Wear FB page.) To place your order, complete the order form available on PeachJar and send with payment ($16/shirt) by Wednesday, Oct. 29. This is a one-time order only, so don’t miss out! All profits of Spirit Wear go back to Chaparral.
Reflections Judges Wanted
The Chaparral PTA Reflections program is looking for qualified judges to help select submissions that will move on to the Poway Unified/Palomar Art Council competition. We are in need of adults, college or high school students with careers or experience in the six contest categories: Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, Film Production, Music Composition, Photography and Literature. Judging takes place Thursday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chaparral MPR. Please contact Kristen Macari, PTA Reflections Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to sign up to help.
Fitness Club Incentive Day
Fitness Club’s October incentive day is coming up next Thursday, Oct. 30. Students who would like to receive the special incentive charm and/or would like to stay in the running for the iPod Nano drawing at the end of the year will need to participate and complete a five-lap minimum that day.
Autumn Auction Update
The Chaparral Autumn Auction is fast approaching and for those of you new to our school, this is a fun night out in a great local setting. The evening includes a 3 course Italian meal, a drink ticket, silent & live auction among an 80's theme Murder Mystery Event.
New this year...we are going "online"...You'll be able to bid on some great items like a personalized Chaparral bike, amusement park tickets, gift baskets, getaways and more. The best part is that all of the proceeds go directly to support programs like Art Attacks and help support, maintain and continue deploying technology. Each of these programs helps your child learn and grow.
November 15th is the auction date so that leaves just 2 weeks to get your tickets at the reduced rate of $60. As of November 9th, the price increases to $70.
Volunteers will be selling tickets on campus at both the front and back gates from 8:20-8:50 and 2:45-3:15 on Friday October 24th, Thursday October 30th, Friday November 7th and Thursday November 13th. OR you can purchase tickets through the foundation website. See the link in the email portion of this message to purchase your tickets.
More information about the online auction will be coming soon so watch your email and check the foundation Facebook page.
Mentor Volunteers Sought
Chaparral mentors are needed to work with students who will benefit from the extra attention to ensure their success in school. Our program reaches beyond the pool of traditional classroom volunteers and brings in dads, grandparents, neighbors and friends who give a half to one hour each week on campus. Mentors help students develop stronger study habits, empower social confidence and much more. Think about the great role models around you and contact Kolee Humilde for more information about the Chaparral mentor program.
