Notes from the
Last week your child should have brought home a blue Federal Survey form. These forms are required from each student annually in order for our district to receive certain funding from the federal government; specific details are explained on the cover sheet attached to the form. Please return the surveys no later than Friday, October 16. If you did not receive one, please contact the office immediately.
Chaparral will be hosting a paper picnic on Friday October 16. Bring a ream of paper into school and you can have lunch with your child during their normal lunch break! If you cannot make it for lunch then send Grandma or Grandpa or another family member. All are welcome but don’t forget to bring in your paper!
Lunch times are as follows:
11:40 for grade 2 & 3 and Room 8
12:25 for grades 4 & 5 and Room 6
1:10 for grades K & 1 and Room 7
Please remember that before you volunteer with our students in any capacity, including field trips, you must complete a Megan’s Law background check (which takes approximately 10 working days to process) and provide evidence of a current TB test. All necessary forms are available to you in our front office. If you have any questions regarding the status of your clearance, feel free to call the office and we will be happy to check for you.
Parents of identified GATE students are welcome to attend the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting to be held on Wednesday, October 28 from 8:00am - 8:50am in room 22 (the iPad Lab). The PAC meeting is an opportunity for all GATE parents to review the forms completed back in August for the 2015-2016 year. The goal of the meeting is to bring together interested parents to support extracurricular activities for our Chaparral GATE students in grades 3-5. This meeting will be hosted by Ms. Krebs Helson (4th grade teacher) and Mrs. Buhr (Chaparral's principal). Please enter through the front of the school since the back gate will be locked until 8:30 AM. Should you have any questions about this meeting, please contact Ms. Kathryn Krebs Helson at email@example.com .
Many of our Volunteer Badges are in the office, ready for pick-up. If you had your picture taken on our School Picture Day, and if your Megan's Law and TB test results are current, you may stop by and pick up your badge. *Please note that several badges had the incorrect spelling of names; they are being reprinted and will be available soon.

Who Does Your Student Want to be for a Day?
Our first Help Hawks Soar “…For a Day” drawing is coming up at the community gathering on Friday, Oct. 30. This is a rewards drawing for all students whose Help Hawks Soar direct donation of $150 has been met as of this Friday, Oct. 16. Help Hawks Soar is our fundraising campaign to raise $150 per student so that the Chaparral Elementary PTA and Chaparral Educational Foundation can continue to provide the programs and activities that our families have said are important to them.
The student chosen from a random drawing gets to pick who they want to be for the day: principal, custodian, or PE teacher! Donations received by this Friday, Oct. 16 not only are eligible for this rewards drawing, but they are automatically rolled over into two more drawings this year! To donate now, click here. To learn more, go to www.chaparralhawks.com and click on “Donations.”
