REMINDERS...

All visitors to our campus must check in through the Administration Office at the front of the school.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL?

Please take a few minutes at home to carefully check your child’s health before he/she leaves for school each morning. The following are a few suggestions, which may help to guide you:

REASONS FOR KEEPING YOUR CHILD HOME:

~Illness during the night
~Fever is present (100 degrees or greater)
~Complaints of nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, headache, diarrhea prior to leaving for school
~Development of a rash on face and/or body
~Has a severe cold, cough and/or sore throat
~Has inflamed eye(s) with discharge from them

Please Remember: An ill child cannot function properly in the classroom. The spread of illness and disease through class or school can be more easily monitored if sick children remain at home during the acute stage of an illness. If the school health tech detects any of the above, your child will be sent home.

People with influenza-like illness are to remain home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100o F [37.8o C]) without the use of fever-reducing medications.

A student’s absence should be reported on the School Absence Hotline by calling: (858) 485-0042 x4202.

Homework can also be requested on this phone message, please indicate when you will be picking it up.

Principal’s Reminders

PUSD Community Forums
Our Superintendent, Dr. Collins, has sent a PUSD Family message this month about four Community Forums the District is holding over the next several weeks to receive input on developing a vision for "Personalized Learning." Read this important message by visiting our District website at www.powayusd.com/depts/Super/messages.shtml . I hope that our Chaparral community will be an active part of this process. I will be attending the Community Forum on March 3rd at 6pm. I hope that you can join me at this Forum and help ensure that the voice of Chaparral is part of the conversation. Thank you!

Twin Peaks Middle School Parent Night
If your child will be attending Twin Peaks Middle School next year, you won't want to miss an important parent night this Wednesday, the 4th, at 6pm in the TPMS MPR. Please park in the main school lot and on the basketball courts behind the school (signs will be posted). Campus tours will start at 5:15 and go until 5:50 for those who are interested. A GATE parent meeting will be at 5:30 in the Theatre. There will not be a separate meeting for SPED or ELL parents. Please see the flyer on Peachjar for details.

Get Your Paper Ready
This Friday, March 6th, is Have Lunch With Your Grandparent Day! (Parents or other family members are welcome as well.) A ream of paper is your ticket in! Simply bring your paper to the front office and then take your picnic lunch out and have lunch with your student during their regularly scheduled lunch time. Our Spirit Wear Team will be out in the grass with samples, sizes and order forms; come ready to stock up on your Chaparral gear!

Bernardo Heights Middle School Parent Night
If your child will be attending Bernardo Heights Middle School next year, please mark your calendars for an important parent night on March 18th from 6pm -7:30pm in the BHMS gym.  See the flyer on Peacjhar for more information.

Parking Lot Reminder
Please remember that there is NO parking in our red zones, and you may only park in the handicapped spots if you are displaying a valid permit. You should always park on Tannin and walk in to the campus.

PTA and Chaparral Educational Foundation Announcements

Chaparral's Annual Spell-A-Thon Has Kicked Off
March 25th is our annual Spell-A-Thon! This past Friday, the Chick-Fil-A Cow visited our students at the Community Gathering. Each student will receive a Chick-Fil-A meal ticket and the chance for much, much more. Please see the Kick Off Flyer that went home with your students last Friday.  This is one last opportunity to help bridge the gap in the financial shortfall we are faced with that supports the programs that we all cherish at Chaparral.

5th and 1st Grade Teacher Dates this March
Your student will not want to miss this fun event with their teacher and friends, and you will be helping our school. Cost: $20 per student, please send a check with your student's name, teacher name and grade in the memo field.
5th Grade Movie and Snacks - Wed., March 11th from 1:35pm - 3:30pm
1st Grade Dance Party - Wed., March 25th, from 1:30 - 3:00pm

PTA/CEF Survey
If you haven't yet had a chance to take our survey, it's not too late! It's highly likely that we may end the year with a gap between what we've committed to give our students and what we can afford to continue funding. Now more than ever, we need your input to guide our way. Please use the link below to fill out the survey. It should take about 10 minutes to complete and the investment will be invaluable.

Want to learn more or get a quick refresher as to what the Foundation and PTA do for our school? Check out this great video by The Draw Shop that explains how your donations work to improve our children's school experience.

If you haven't yet made a donation to Help Hawks Soar, we encourage you to learn more at www.chaparraledfoundation.com/donate . And if you'd like to help make a difference at our school, we encourage you to get involved. Both the PTA and the Foundation boards are volunteer-run organizations collectively providing the means to fund over $110,000 in programs and services are our school directed at the educational enrichment of our children. Spring Pictures
Spring pictures are coming up this Wednesday and Thursday, March 4th and 5th. Flyers have been sent home with students detailing information on grade level times. No money is needed beforehand and pictures will be sent home with students the following week. There is no obligation to purchase - dress your student for an "outdoor portrait" look.

Spring Book Fair
From March 6th to 13th the Chaparral library transforms into Book Fair Under the Sea, Explore an Ocean of Books! Not only do the students enjoy the opportunity to purchase new books, it's an important PTA fundraiser as more than 25% of all sales go back to Chaparral. The book fair relies on the support of school volunteers to staff shifts before, during and after school, as well as the help setting it up and closing it down. See the flyer on Peachjar to view the book fair schedule. Click on this link to access our volunteer sign up form: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050f4fa5af23a02-spring1

Dance With YOUR Star
Mark your calendar for the debut of Chaparral's "Dancing with YOUR Star" Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances on March 13th and 14th. Want more info? See the flier Peachjar and look for more information in next week's message.
