More Information...

All visitors to our campus must check in through the Administration Office at the front of the school.

Please take a few minutes at home to carefully check your child’s health before he/she leaves for school each morning. The following are a few suggestions, which may help to guide you:

~Illness during the night
~Fever is present (100 degrees or greater)
~Complaints of nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, headache, diarrhea prior to leaving for school
~Development of a rash on face and/or body
~Has a severe cold, cough and/or sore throat
~Has inflamed eye(s) with discharge from them

Please Remember: An ill child cannot function properly in the classroom. The spread of illness and disease through class or school can be more easily monitored if sick children remain at home during the acute stage of an illness. If the school health tech detects any of the above, your child will be sent home.

People with influenza-like illness are to remain home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100o F [37.8o C]) without the use of fever-reducing medications.

A student’s absence should be reported on the School Absence Hotline by calling: (858) 679-2639.

Homework can also be requested on this phone message and will be ready after school in the office.

Welcome to Sunset Hills

We want to hear your feedback. The information will be used to make goals for our school. We will be setting up a parent station with computers, before and after school this Friday, March 27th. You can take the survey after you drop off your child, at ESS or in front of the school.  You should have received a separate Connect Ed message requesting you to complete the Parent Perception survey.  The purpose of the survey is to provide the most effective educational environment for your child.  We plan to use the information to set goals and evaluate achievement of our school and district initiatives and set funding priorities as part of our Local Control Accountability Plan.  Click below to access the survey.

The first day to enroll for Kindergarten 2015-2016 is Wednesday, May 6th.  We will enroll students in the multipurpose room from 7:30-11:00 am and then ongoing in the office.
Please be sure to bring the following ORIGINAL documents with you upon enrollment:

  • Original Birth Certificate, Current Passport or Baptismal Certificate(TK-12). As required by State law, all children entering Kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1, 2014. If your child's birthday is between September 2, 2014 and December 2, 2014, they will be enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten.
  • Immunization Records Click for current immunization information (TK-12). All children are required to have their vaccinations fully completed before enrolling in school, unless exempt, as provided by law.
  • Two Documents as Proofs of Residency (TK-12) Click for appropriate documents for address verification

Parents of children with a fifth birthday between June 1stand September 1st, 2015 who wish to enroll their child into a TK class, MUST place their name on a District Interest Wait  List. Click on the following link:
. Select "TK Interest Wait List" to put your child's name on the list.  The TK Interest Wait List opens March 2, 2015 at 8:00 am. The assigned TK school site will notify parents on the Interest List of an opening in TK. The parent will then be given 48 hours to enroll. Due to increased numbers of students required to enroll in TK, please note space is very limited and will be determined on a first-come, first served basis.
All students born between September 2, 2010 and December 2, 2010 will automatically be placed in a TK class.
Sunset Hills will be having a TK/Kindergarten information meeting on Wednesday, April 29th at 5:00 pm in the multipurpose room.

Our Jog-a-thon was a great success! Thank you to the many staff members and volunteers for helping put on such a fun event this morning. Every student went home with a new Jog-a-thon t-shirt.  A special thank you goes out to all those families that have already turned in their pledge forms.  If you are able, please turn in your pledge form so we can beat how much money was raised last year.  Donate online at

There was an awesome turnout at the Family Math Night.  It was great seeing our students show off their math skills!  Thank you for coming.  Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Good's class tied with the highest percentage of students attending.  PTA gave the teachers a generous Amazon gift card.  Congratulations to Grant Townsend who won the estimation contest.  There were 711 marshmallows and 736 conversation hearts.  Some of the parents who attended wanted the link to the video titled "Why is Math Different Now" that was shown in the presentation:

Parents, here is another way to stay updated on Sunset Hills notifications and events. There is an app that allows Principal Ziegler to send out texts when there is a change in schedule, reminders, or emergencies. This will not replace our current Connect Ed messages. This is just another way to stay connected. All you have to do is “Opt” in by sending a message to (434) 473-7316. In the message box type @allshe. Follow the text prompt and you will start receiving messages. Please know that standard text message rates apply. Click on the link for more information:

We need everyone's help to ensure our parking lot is safe.  Click here to see map which illustrates the rules.
