  •   SDES Reopening Presentation

  •   School Reopening Plan for Learning, Health and Safety

On Friday, July 17, Governor Newsom announced clear mandates for how and when California schools can physically reopen. Schools can reopen if the county they are located in is removed from the state’s COVID-19 monitoring list for 14 consecutive days. At this time, San Diego County has been placed on the state monitoring list due to rising cases since early July. As such, the San Diego County Department of Public Health’s latest public health order does not allow for the physical reopening of schools.
Poway Unified School District (PUSD) continues to monitor local public health conditions to ensure our reopening plans are in alignment with county, state, and federal guidelines and recommendations. This plan ensures PUSD is on track to reopen our schools for in-person learning as soon as possible pending health orders.

     Meet the Principal Slideshow

  •   Introducing Principal, Mrs. Raquel Katz

    Dear Sundance Families and Community,
It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as your new Principal of Sundance Elementary School. I am honored to join a tight-knit community that is highly regarded for its academic excellence and innovation.  I have heard so many wonderful things about the staff, families, and students.  Your vision of creating an inclusive learning environment is aligned to my core values.  I look forward to getting to know you and your child(ren).
For nearly seven years, I have had the pleasure of serving as Principal of Ryan STEAM Academy in San Jose, CA.  Working with my staff and families to transform our school from a traditional model to a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) academy has been incredibly rewarding.  I love learning alongside our students -- to watch them discover, create, and design in an engaging learning environment inspires me.  Prior to being a site administrator, I was a K-5 resource teacher/instructional coach and an elementary teacher.  I have also mentored new principals both in my current district and in surrounding districts through the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and have worked for Loyola Marymount University as an instructor and university supervisor.
In my role, I believe in the power of community and connection.  One of the most important aspects of my role is fostering positive relationships with our families, staff, and students.  I want every person in our school community to know how much they are valued and how they have a special place in our hearts.  I believe in building on what’s currently in place by learning and growing together.  As your principal, I want you to know that I always value and appreciate feedback and open communication.  My door is always open and I’m just an email or phone call away.
During the summer, I will be working with Mr. Rodrigo, Ms. Gilbert, and the Poway Unified School District to ensure there is a smooth transition prior to the start of the 2020/2021 school year.  I want to thank Mr. Rodrigo for his dedication to the Sundance community and wish him the best in his future endeavors.  I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
    With warm regards,
    Raquel Katz

    Family Commitment Form Period

From Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31, PUSD families are being asked to choose one of the Learning Model options outlined below for each of your children. We want you to select the option that works best for your family’s and student’s needs. Your selection will allow us to ensure we are placing your children in a learning environment that provides the most comfortable and successful opportunity for them. Here is the Family Commitment Form. You must fill out one separate form for every child in your household. If you do not make a selection by Friday, July 31 at 11:59pm, your child will be automatically placed in the on campus option. READ MORE HERE
