This is a reminder that the Walk Against Hate is this Sunday, May 19th at 8:30am at Ingram Plaza/ Liberty station. It is not too late to join team Sundance and show our commitment to being a school where everyone feels welcome and belongs!  Because of the awesome work of students, parents, staff, and teachers, we have earned our designation as a No Place for Hate school community and will be receiving our Banner at the opening ceremonies. Please go to the ADL website www.adl.org  and join team Sundance to be a part of this important event.
As we prepare for the 2019-2020 school year, we are excited to launch our new online registration process for parents/guardians of students currently enrolled in PUSD.   This new digital process will allow a family to complete one single “family” packet instead of completing one packet per student. Packets can be completed using any computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection. If you do not have access to any computing device your student’s school will have one which can be used to complete the packet.
This new process contains three steps:
1. Login and complete the digital registration packet by visiting the ParentVUE portal:
 2. Print and sign the required forms located at the conclusion of the process. At this time, the State
of California does not allow guardian/parents to electronically sign certain documents. If you are unable to print the document, please sign a copy provided in the office.
 3. Return the forms to your student’s teacher before June 11, 2019
Aloha! Save the date! Our annual Sundance Spring Luau will be on June 7th at 6pm. Admission is $3, and plenty of food and treats will be available for purchase, including some amazing homemade Hawaiian food. We are lucky enough to have the wonderful Polynesian dancing group visit us again to perform. We will also be having a silent auction during the Luau. There will be several items up for auction!  You won’t want to miss the last dance of the year! Be sure to come in your Hawaiian attire!
SPIRIT WEAR RESALE! – Time for Spring Cleaning?
Do you have gently used worn Sundance shirts or sweatshirts that your children don't wear anymore?  We are now collecting Spirit Wear items for our upcoming RESALE event. You may drop the freshly laundered items off at the office.   If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sonja at SundanceSpiritwear@gmail.com.
We are WILD about our MANY volunteers!  If you volunteer at Sundance, we would love to show our appreciation at our annual Volunteer Tea.  This year’s event will be held on Friday, May 24 at 8:30AM in the Library.  See you there!!
Please drive slowly and follow the Golden Rule with other drivers and staff members.   Remember that you are not the only one in a hurry!
As you enter the parking lot to pick up or drop off your child, please drive along the curb and pull up as far as possible.
Please DO NOT leave your car unoccupied at the curb, or park in the two reserved spots.
Our recent State Dashboard Report shows Sundance doing very well academically, but chronically absent students has been flagged as a concern.  Please help us to change this designation, by reading the following and the attached flyer about school attendance and doing your best to get your child to school regularly and on-time.
• Studies show that missing just 18 days of school makes it harder to learn to read and constitutes a child being considered chronically absent.
• Even in preschool and kindergarten, make sure your child learns that being in school every day is important
• Being late means your child is missing out on learning
• Missing school just a day or two every few weeks puts children behind
• When teachers are helping children catch up because they were absent, the other children are being impacted
PUSD provides Off-Campus Independent Study (OCIS) for students away from campus. This is intended to continue your child’s education should there be a need to be off campus for five or more days, NOT due to illness. This request must be made five school days before your departure to allow our teacher sufficient time to gather the work.  Please see the office for this contract and to be made aware of all of rules which apply to an OCIS contract.

We have a new Instagram Page to go along with our Facebook page it’s: sundanceelementary (all one word.) We have about 35 followers but mostly K parents. We’d love to get some other grades involved. This page will focus more on classroom activities vs. whole school.
Some Sundance Parents have created a Facebook Page to help build more community within our school.  This group is not administered by the school in any way but provides a chance to connect with other Sundance Parents: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1456800417734747/
