Our recent State Dashboard Report shows Sundance doing very well academically, but chronically absent students has been flagged as a concern.  Please help us to change this designation, by reading the following and the attached flyer about school attendance and doing your best to get your child to school regularly and on-time.
• Studies show that missing just 18 days of school makes it harder to learn to read and constitutes a child being considered chronically absent.
• Even in preschool and kindergarten, make sure your child learns that being in school every day is important
• Being late means your child is missing out on learning
• Missing school just a day or two every few weeks puts children behind
• When teachers are helping children catch up because they were absent, the other children are being impacted
PUSD is fortunate to have two middle school academies.  Meadowbrook will be hosting a parent information night on Wednesday, January 23, 6 – 7:30 PM.  Black Mountain will be holding their parent night the following Wednesday, January 30, 6- 7:30 PM.  Please check their websites for further information.
The Jog-A-Thon committee is looking for donations for our top prizes. If you (or your spouse) work for a company that would be willing to help with a prize, please let Jennifer Hunsaker know as soon as possible (i.e., if a parent works for Jack in the Box, would Jack in the Box be willing to donate a gift card or something for the Jog-A-Thon? Or if you work for Microsoft, would Microsoft be willing to donate something?). This is the time of year where lots of gifts are being given, sometimes with gifts that you may or may not want. If you are gifted something that you may not need but you think would be a great donation for our Jog-a-Thon, please contact Jennifer  at jenhunsaker@gmail.com or text 858-717-0441. Thanks so much!

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to bird watch each Monday during the lunch recess.  During 2018, 30-40 students each week took advantage of the chance to bird watch.  We have seen 43 different bird species around the Sundance running track. If you are in the office, take a moment to look at the board to see which birds have been spotted.
We would love to have our 2nd grade students join in as well, but to do so we need more volunteers!  You do not need to be able to identify birds, just be enthusiastic about helping students see birds with the naked eye and then with binoculars.  If you are  interested contact Alice at greenheron@sbcglobal.net
Please continue to clip and collect Box Tops!  We just received a check in the amount of $547!  This will allow us to buy new playground and PE equipment.  Make it a habit to always look for and clip those Box Tops!  They add up quickly and are a valued resource for our school.  THANK YOU, and thank you to Jenn Russo for her hours of work in collecting and submitting!
PUSD provides Off-Campus Independent Study (OCIS) for students away from campus. This is intended to continue your child’s education should there be a need to be off campus for five or more days, NOT due to illness. This request must be made five school days before your departure to allow our teacher sufficient time to gather the work.  Please see the office for this contract and to be made aware of all of rules which apply to an OCIS contract.
Shopping at Amazon? Amazon will donate to Twin Trails Education Foundation when you shop! Be sure to shop at https://smile.amazon.com/ch/20-1105904 to take advantage of this opportunity.

Any items to be delivered to students after school starts will be placed outside the classroom, to avoid interruption.  Please let your children know that they should look by the classroom door for “late deliveries!”   All items should have the student’s name and room number attached. Tags are available at the front desk.   You are welcome to email the teacher alerting them that the item was dropped off.  Thank you!

By importing this calendar to your phone you will automatically have the most up-to-date information at your fingertips. Some Sundance Parents have created a Facebook Page to help build more community within our school.  This group is not administered by the school in any way but provides a chance to connect with other Sundance Parents  .https://www.facebook.com/groups/1456800417734747/
