If your child gets sick with flu-like illness, the Center for Disease Control recommends that he or she stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone except to get medical care or other necessities.  The fever should be gone without the use of fever-reducing medicine.  Remind your child of the importance of good handwashing and covering their nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.  They should avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth as germs spread this way.  Fliers with more flu information are available in the office.
Parents of children with a fifth birthday between June 1st and September 1st, 2019 who wish to enroll their child into a TK class, rather than a Kindergarten class, MUST place their child’s name on a District Interest Wait List. Beginning March 1, 2019, at 8:00 AM, go to the District Website and select "TK Interest Wait List" to put your child's name on the list. District staff will notify parents on the Interest List starting in June, or later in the summer, of an opening in TK.  Due to increased numbers of students required to enroll in TK, please note space is very limited and will be determined on a first-come, first served basis.  It is critical for all parents to enroll their students in Kindergarten at their home schools when enrollment begins in May.
Sundance will hold an informational meeting for incoming TK and kindergarten parents in June.
We have a new Instagram Page to go along with our Facebook page it’s: sundanceelementary (all one word.) We have about 35 followers but mostly K parents. We’d love to get some other grades involved. This page will focus more on classroom activities vs. whole school.
Some Sundance Parents have created a Facebook Page to help build more community within our school.  This group is not administered by the school in any way but provides a chance to connect with other Sundance Parents: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1456800417734747/
Check out our Facebook page through the link on our school website https://www.powayusd.com/en-US/Schools/ES/SDES
We upload pictures often to let you take a peek at all of the great fun going on at our school
Our recent State Dashboard Report shows Sundance doing very well academically, but chronically absent students has been flagged as a concern.  Please help us to change this designation, by reading the following and the attached flyer about school attendance and doing your best to get your child to school regularly and on-time.
• Studies show that missing just 18 days of school makes it harder to learn to read and constitutes a child being considered chronically absent.
• Even in preschool and kindergarten, make sure your child learns that being in school every day is important
• Being late means your child is missing out on learning
• Missing school just a day or two every few weeks puts children behind
• When teachers are helping children catch up because they were absent, the other children are being impacted
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to bird watch each Monday during the lunch recess.  During 2018, 30-40 students each week took advantage of the chance to bird watch.  We have seen 43 different bird species around the Sundance running track. If you are in the office, take a moment to look at the board to see which birds have been spotted.
We would love to have our 2nd grade students join in as well, but to do so we need more volunteers!  You do not need to be able to identify birds, just be enthusiastic about helping students see birds with the naked eye and then with binoculars.  If you are  interested contact Alice at greenheron@sbcglobal.net
PUSD provides Off-Campus Independent Study (OCIS) for students away from campus. This is intended to continue your child’s education should there be a need to be off campus for five or more days, NOT due to illness. This request must be made five school days before your departure to allow our teacher sufficient time to gather the work.  Please see the office for this contract and to be made aware of all of rules which apply to an OCIS contract.
