SWITCH

A local non-profit, SOLE Effects, founded by PUSD educators, has developed a highly impactful, research-based social leadership program for 7th-9th grade students, called “SWITCH”. The mission of SOLE Effects is to “Grow Strong Leaders through Influential Role Models”. College students are trained to mentor and equip teens with strong interpersonal and life skills.  SWITCH supports students of all levels of social skills to develop positive relationships and to guide them to make healthy life choices.
SWITCH takes place each Spring throughout an 8-session program. Topics include Passion/Purpose, Teamwork, Empathy, Stress Control, Direct Communication, Mind & Body, Healthy Relationships, and Leadership.  Mentors also emphasize making positive choices in their digital lives. Sessions include music, stories from the coaches, video clips, small group discussions, team-building activities, goal setting, new and stronger friendships, and lots of laughs!
SWITCH has become a very popular program where students are able to relate to these positive role models. Here are just a few comments from past SWITCH Participants:

"SWITCH inspired me to rise up above my fears and to stand up to for things or people who need it.”
“I have gotten a lot of pressure off my shoulders through things I learned in SWITCH.”
“I inspired my friends not to worry about fitting in and I helped them become more confident.”
“SWITCH helped me to be kinder to myself and others."
“I have become smarter in my decision making and less stressed.”
“I felt like I belonged.”
