6th Grade
In 6
th grade, we pride ourselves in transitioning students from the elementary level to the middle school. We read a variety of selected stories from our literature book, The Language of Literature – McDougal Littell, as well as reading a few class novels. The focus on writing is emphasized with three types of essays: narrative, argumentative, and explanatory.

7th Grade
We are highly focused on reading and writing while utilizing strategies that support the Common Core standards. We learn three types of essays: narrative, argumentative, and explanatory (response to literature).
In terms of reading, we read 4 class novels: The Outsiders by S. E Hinton, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Beowulf by Robert Nye, and And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.

8th Grade
We are committed in preparing our students for high school and beyond! As a team, we focus on the common theme of perspectives. We teach in thematic units, with the incorporation of short stories, poems, and video clips. We focus on utilizing the Common Core as a way to make our students college and career ready. We read a variety of selections from our textbook, The Language of Literature – McDougal Littell. One of our major focuses is on writing. We are writing explanatory, argumentative, and narrative incorporating the use of several sources and work cited.
