The administration and staff at Mesa Verde Middle School are building the master schedule for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents of GATE students may request the type of academic placement they feel will best meet the needs of their child. Requests may be made for either of the following classroom environments. Both options focus on the core curriculum and offer high quality, academically rigorous programs.
GATE Cluster: A cluster of 8-12 GATE identified students is placed within an otherwise heterogeneously grouped, self-contained classroom (language arts and social studies).
Important Notes -- GATE Cluster classes:
  • Class sizes of GATE Cluster classes will be comparable to the other basic education classes.
  • GATE Cluster classes will be created, as necessary, to accommodate the number of students requesting this setting.

GATE Homogeneous: Comprised of only GATE Identified students (language arts and social studies).
Important Notes -- GATE Homogeneous classes:
  • Only students identified as GATE by a PUSD GATE test or by the PUSD Steering Committee will be eligible for the GATE Homogeneous class.
  • Class sizes of GATE Homogeneous classes will be larger than the basic education and/or GATE Cluster classes.
  • If the number of requests for GATE Homogeneous classes exceeds class size placement availability, a computer-based lottery will be conducted to determine the class roster. Student names will be assigned a number based on the lottery.
  • Students not selected in the lottery will be automatically assigned to a GATE Cluster class.
  • A waiting list for GATE Homogeneous will be maintained should openings occur prior to the beginning of the year. Requests for homogeneous placement that are not received by the due date listed below will not be included in the lottery.
  • If the number of requests for the GATE Homogeneous setting is not sufficient to meet district/site class size and grade levelguidelines, the class will not be offered. All GATE students would then be placed in GATE Cluster classes.
  • If a GATE Homogeneous lottery is run, students and families will not be notified of the results until the first day of the 2020-2021 school year.

Our MVMS Parent GATE Night was held on Thursday, March 5th.  If you were unable to attend, please review the slides by clicking HERE.
