GATE CLASSES
Homogeneous GATE Humanities Class (all grades)
All students a Homogeneous GATE Humanites class (Language Arts and Social Studies) are district-identified GATE students. Class sizes of GATE Homogeneous classes will be larger than the other humanities classes. If the number of requests for GATE Homogeneous classes exceeds class size placement availability, a computer-based lottery will be conducted to determine the class roster. Students not selected in the lottery will be automatically assigned to a GATE Cluster class.
If the number of requests for the GATE Homogeneous setting is not sufficient to meet district/site class size and grade level guidelines, the class will not be offered. All GATE students would then be placed in GATE Cluster classes. If a GATE Homogeneous lottery is run, students and families will not be notified of the results until the start of the school year.
GATE Cluster Class for Humanities (all grades)
A GATE Cluster class consists of 8-12 district-identified GATE students is placed within an otherwise heterogeneously grouped, self-contained classroom for Language Arts and Social Studies. Class sizes of GATE Cluster classes will be comparable to the other humanities classes. GATE Cluster classes will be created, as necessary, to accommodate the number of students requesting this setting.
