I am humbled and honored to serve as the principal of Black Mountain Middle School. I was born and raised in Northern California. While there, I attended Santa Clara University, majored in history, and received my Masters in Education Administration from National University. I served in education for over 20 years. During that time, I taught 7th and 8th grade humanities, high school social science, English, and video production. I have also been an Athletic and ASB Director.  Before coming to Team Poway, I served the community of Temecula as an assistant principal at Temecula Valley High School.

The best thing I have ever done is marry an amazing southern California girl. My wife Jennifer and I have four children. Jacob and Jessica are grown and on their own, while our two youngest, Dominic and Dante, are students in the Poway Unified School District. In our spare time, we enjoy the beach, sports, hiking, and traveling. I also enjoy officiating high school football. Coincidentally, I am a big sports fan, all Bay Area. Go Giants, 49ers, Warriors and GO RAIDERS

Jo Ann Cooper, Vice Principal

I was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and earned my B.S. in Microbiology from Pennsylvania State University.  [Cooper] I've lived in San Diego since 1996 and am the very proud mother of three adult sons. I truly appreciated the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom for twelve years before returning to school to earn my teaching credential from Cal State University - San Marcos in 2000 when my youngest son was in 1st grade.

In 2009 I completed requirements for my Masters' Degree in Educational Leadership as well as my Administrative Credential also at CSUSM. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching 6-8th grade math classes at Twin Peaks Middle School from 2000-2012, and was extremely honored and thrilled to be selected as a Poway Unified School District Teacher of the Year for 2011-12.

I love to watch all sports - especially football, baseball, soccer and lacrosse. My favorite teams are the Penquins, Steelers, Pirates and the Nittany Lions! I love the beach, coffee, chocolate and pennies, and enjoy doing yoga, riding my bike, crocheting and reading.

Peter McKee, Vice PrincipaI

I was raised on the California coast in Carlsbad where I went from elementary through high school along with my brother and sister.  In fact my parents are still in the same home in Carlsbad.  I remained in the county at attended SDSU and I am a proud Aztec alum.  Since graduating in 1990, I began teaching and coaching at Carlsbad High School where I began my career.  Since then I have had the good fortune to work and coach alongside some wonderful and amazing teachers and staff.  This year will mark my 29th year in education and I am very excited to join an outstanding group of educators at Black Mountain Middle School.

Recently, my wife Corinne and I had our first child.  We are truly blessed with our son Maddox who was born in January 2018.  Our family lives in north Escondido in the quiet little community of Hidden Meadows.  We enjoy doing all things together as a family, including hiking, riding bikes, camping and days at the beach this summer.  Our time with family and friends is what we enjoy most and look forward to doing.

I am very much looking forward to joining BMMS.  I am one who enjoys learning and taking on new roles.  We in the Poway District are fortunate to have amazing teachers and staff members as well as the best students and community.  I cannot wait to begin the 2018-2019 school year, it is going to be the best one yet!
