Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Del Norte High School, home of Nighthawk Nation!
The 2018-19 school years marks our 10th year anniversary as a proud member of the Poway Unified School District. The past 10 years have been spent on developing a unique school culture that sets us apart from other large comprehensive high schools.

Our mission of Inspiring passion and preparing all students to be college ready, future focused, and globally aware drives us to offer unique learning opportunities for all of our students.

At the heart of what we do for students lies our signature practices. While serving a student body of over 2300 students we continuously seek to find ways of providing a “Home Court Advantage” for our students, staff, and community. We strongly encourage all of our Nighthawks to use their 2,000,000 minutes of high school to actively get involved in the life of the school and become part of Nighthawk nation! Our school environment is one of inclusivity, where all are valued, supported, safe, and all take ownership of our school. We believe every student has a gift, and each individual uniquely adds value to the Nest.

We believe that all students should have “Open Access” academic opportunities to challenge themselves during their time in the Nest. We work to not label students, nor limit students’ access to challenging coursework. All students are encouraged to take AP level courses before they graduate. We continue to develop our CTE pathways. Our trimester system allows all of our students’ maximum flexibility as they create their four-year academic plans.

We believe in “Student-Centered Learning” and as such, every student is assigned a homeroom staff advisor in addition to his or her counselor. We want all of our students to connect to school and feel a sense of ownership and pride about our campus, our Nest, our home. We continually work to create not just a place where students get a world-class education, an amazing athletic experience, a place to perform, sing, dance, cheer, or play an instrument, but rather they get a family. We all believe every student has a gift, and each individual uniquely adds value to the Nest.

We are ONE SCHOOL, ONE FLOCK, NIGHTHAWK STRONG!
It’s great to be a Nighthawk.
