Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Del Norte High School, home of Nighthawk Nation!

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! I trust you had a wonderful summer recess and had the opportunity to enjoy time with family, friends, and loved ones. Whether you visited an exotic location or you binge watched your favorite series on Netflix all summer, I hope you had a great time and are now recharged, refreshed, and excited to return to the Nest.
Our mission of inspiring passion and preparing all students to be college ready, future focused, and globally aware drives us to offer unique learning opportunities for all of our students.
We believe that all students should have “Open Access” academic opportunities to challenge themselves during their time in the Nest. We work to not label students, nor limit students’ access to challenging coursework. All students are encouraged to take AP level courses before they graduate. We continue to develop our CTE pathways. Our trimester system allows all of our students’ maximum flexibility as they create their four-year academic plans.
This school year offers us an exciting opportunity to open up the 2nd decade of Del Norte with our largest staff, student body, and the continued expectations of providing “Home Court Advantage” to our community. We will continue to build upon our culture of inclusiveness and further push our mission of inspiring passion, preparing all students for college and career readiness, while being future focused and globally aware. There is no better place to be than at Del Norte because of the culture that has been set during our first decade.
This year will be busy, exciting, and action packed! We will begin our 2nd WASC self-study process in our focused action teams, hone in on our instruction and PLC work centering on providing rigorous student engagement opportunities for each of our 2400 plus students this year while continuing to develop strong positive relationships with our teams and community. I cannot wait to get down to the business of teaching and learning this year.
As we begin 2019-20 school year, let us continue to:

  • Live our “Home Court Advantage” and be ambassadors of the Nest
  • Solve conflict at its lowest level
  • Be advocates for our students and our learning community
  • Do not ever be afraid to fail forward

Whether you have been here since day one, or now call Del Norte home. Let me be the first to say welcome HOME! One Flock, One School, Nighthawk Strong!

Proud Principal, Del Norte High School!
