Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Del Norte High School, home of Nighthawk Nation!

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! We get the opportunity make history! We are anxious, a little nervous, and that is OK. This year we will learn together and support each other through this unprecedented time in our history. This year unlike any other we will live our mission of inspiring passion, preparing our students for college and career, and being future focused and globally aware. It is my hope that we will use the opportunities ahead of this year to better ourselves, our communities, and our school. Our strength this year will be our support of each other! It’s going to be a great year Nighthawks!
We believe that all students should have “Open Access” academic opportunities to challenge themselves during their time in the Nest. We work to not label students, nor limit students’ access to challenging coursework. All students are encouraged to take AP level courses before they graduate. We continue to develop our CTE pathways. Our trimester system allows all of our students’ maximum flexibility as they create their four-year academic plans.
This school year offers us an exciting opportunity at Del Norte with our largest staff, student body, and the continued expectations of providing “Home Court Advantage” to our community. We will continue to build upon our culture of inclusiveness and further push our mission of inspiring passion, preparing all students for college and career readiness, while being future focused and globally aware. There is no better place to be than at Del Norte because of the culture that has been set during our first decade. The foundations of Del Norte, our staff, and student body have been built over the past 11 years for the opportunities we will face this year.
This year will be busy, exciting, and action packed! We will begin our 2nd WASC self-study process in our focused action teams, hone in on our instruction and PLC work centering on providing rigorous student engagement opportunities for each of our nearly 2500 students this year while continuing to develop strong positive relationships with our teams and community. I cannot wait to get down to the business of teaching and learning this year.
As we begin 2020-21 school year, let us continue to:

  • Live our “Home Court Advantage” and be ambassadors of the Nest
  • Solve conflict at its lowest level
  • Be advocates for our students and our learning community
  • Do not ever be afraid to fail forward
  • Let me be the first to say welcome HOME! We are: One Flock, One School, Nighthawk Strong!
    Bryan Schultz
