SWIM & DIVE FAQ's
Q: What does my child need to do to join Swim and Dive for Del Norte?
A: Every student athlete who is interested in playing a sport at Del Norte will need to sign up and complete a Ticket to Play. The website can be found by clicking here. There will be an Interest-Meeting for any student athlete interested in swimming on 1/6/23 during lunch at Del Norte pool deck. Tryouts will be on 2/4/23. Ticket to Play must be completed before tryouts.
Q: Can anyone be on the Swim & Dive team?
A: Everyone can participate and try out for the team. The coaches reserve the right to make cuts.
Q: Can a swimmer miss swim practice or meets?
A: A swimmer can miss a practice or a meet for an emergency. Swimmers are required to be at all meets and all practices. If a swimmer is going to miss a meet or practice, the SWIMMER needs to contact coaches immediately.
Q: How long is the swim and dive season?
A: Swim and dive season begins in February and ends mid/late May. First day of swim and dive practice is Monday, 2/6/23.
Q: How many swim and dive meets will there be this season?
A: There will be a minimum of 7-10 meets this season, not including Leagues and CIF championships at the end of the season.
Q: Can my swimmer choose his/her own swim events during meets?
A: No. Coaches will prepare the swim event lineups. The lineups are designed with much thought and care. Many factors affect how each lineup is created. However, swimmers can communicate their preference to coaches. Parents are not involved in this process.
Q: How many events can a swimmer swim during a meet, including relays?
A: Generally, the maximum number of events a swimmer can enter, and swim is four, usually two individual and two relays but will vary depending on Coaches’ discretion. Coaches will prepare meet lineups a day or two before the meet. This allows the coaches to make changes to lineups as swimmers availability changes and allows the volunteer to enter the swimmers into the computer system for the meet. Relay order will also be at Coaches’ discretion. Relays are usually stacked with swimmers who have the fastest times, best attitudes, and consistent attendance.
Q: My swimmer made the team, how do I order the Team Gear?
A: A start-up fee contribution of ($TBD) will be asked for every swimmer. Please make a check payable to the Del Norte High School Athletic Foundation. Alternatively, you can click here to make your contribution by PayPal (2.99% surcharge). It is especially important to add your child’s name and Swim and Dive as the sport on your check or on PayPal. We will be collecting the payments on the day of tryouts, 2/4/23.
Q: What is included in Team Gear?
A: Your contributions will not only pay for the team suit, team cap, and team t-shirt but it will also include Athletic Foundation fees, invitational meets fees, bus transportation for away meets, maintenance & replacement of swim equipment such timing system, stop watches, backstroke flags, touchpads, kick boards, and etc., and maintenance of Athletic Dept. training room. Your contributions will also allow for the senior night celebration, the end of season banquet, swim awards, and coaches’ gifts. The school does not provide funds for any of these expenses, we rely solely on parent/guardian contributions.
Q: Am I required to volunteer during “home” meets?
A: We ask every parent who can volunteer or send a family representative to volunteer during our “home” meets. We rely on our volunteers to run our “home” meets smoothly. Please consider volunteering! The typical volunteer jobs include set up, clean up, head timer, timer, photographer, meet runner, and scorekeeper. Any help you can provide throughout the season would be appreciated.
