SWIM & DIVE FAQ's

Q: What does my child need to do to join Swim and Dive for Del Norte?
A:  Every student athlete who is interested in playing a sport at Del Norte will need to sign up and complete a Ticket to Play.  The website can be found by clicking here.  There will be an initial meet and greet for any student athlete interested in swimming on October 2, 2021 at 3:00pm at Del Norte Pool Deck.  Tryouts will be on Jan 15, 2022.  Tickets to play must be completed before tryouts.  More important dates to follow so be sure to check the Swim and Dive website often.

Q:  Can anyone be on the Swim & Dive team?
A:  Everyone can participate and try out for the team, however only 40 varsity and 40 junior varsity swimmers will be selected for the 2021-22 season.

Q:  Can a swimmer miss swim practice or meets?
A: A swimmer can miss a practice or a meet for an emergency. Swimmers are required to be at all meets and all practices.  If a swimmer is going to miss a meet or practice the SWIMMER needs to contact Coach Wesley ASAP and let him know.

Q:  How long is the swim and dive season?
A:  A typical swim and dive season runs from late February to mid/late May.  However, expect to start practicing in late January early February 2022.

Q:  How many swim and dive meets will there be this season?
A:  There will be a minimum of 7-10 meets this season, not including Leagues and CIF championships at the end of the season.

Q:  Can my swimmer choose his/her own swim events during meets?
A:  No.  Coach Wesley will make up the swim event line-ups.  However, student athletes can communicate their preference to Coach Wesley. Parents should not be involved in this process.

Q:  How many events can a swimmer swim during a meet, including relays?
A:  In general the maximum number of events a swimmer can enter and swim is four, usually two individual and two relays but will vary depending on Coaches’ discretion.  Coaches will make up the events a day or two before the meet. Relay order will also be at Coaches’ discretion. Relays are usually stacked with swimmers who have the fastest times, best attitudes and consistent attendance.

Q:  My swimmer made the team, how do I order the Team Kit?
A:  A contribution of $_____________will be asked for every swimmer.  Please make a check payable to the Del Norte High School Athletic Foundation.  We will be collecting the payments during the parent meeting on January 22, 2022.

Q:  What is included in the Team Kit?
A:  Your contributions will not only pay for the team suits, caps, t-shirts and jackets, but it will pay for this season an additional third coach’s stipend, invitational meets not covered by the school, and maintenance of swim equipment.  It will also cover swim awards and end of year banquets.

Q:  Am I required to volunteer during “home” meets?
A:  We ask every parent who can volunteer or send a family representative to volunteer during our “home” meets.  A swim meet cannot happen without parent volunteers.  Typical jobs will include running the computers, timing, running the concession stand, being a score keeper, photographing the meet and running scorecards.  If you have a talent or skill that would benefit Del Norte Swim, please be sure to let Coach Wesley know how you can help.

Q:  How can I contact Coach Wesley?
A:  You can contact Coach Wesley by email:  swimdnhs@gmail.com
