Good Evening Cheetah Families,

This is Mandy Bedard, principal of Tierra Bonita, with your weekly announcements.

SPIRIT DAY – TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5TH
Our first Student Council Spirit Day will be this Tuesday, December 5th.  This month’s theme is Holiday Apparel Day.  Show your holiday spirit and wear your holiday gear.

LOVE AND LOGIC PARENT ED NIGHT – 11 DAYS AWAY!
The countdown has begun for our Love and Logic Parent Ed Night with Dr. Charles Fay on December 14th from 6 – 8 PM!  Only 11 days until this big event.  We are so fortunate that our PTA and Foundation have partnered to bring Dr. Fay to Tierra Bonita to support our staff and parents in helping our students to grow and learn!  Childcare will be provided and students will have a supervised Glo Movie Party in the library while parents are learning together.  Please see the attached flyer for more details.
We look forward to a packed house on December 14th.  Trust us when we say, you do not want to miss out on this event!

SPEAK UP SURVEY
Providing our students with the most up to date educational resources is a priority for Poway Unified School District.  As part of that effort, we’re engaging in a comprehensive study of the current and future uses of educational technology in our schools.  Parent input in the direction of this work is critical.
From November 27th until January 19th we’ll be participating in the Speak Up Research Project for Digital Learning.  Since 2003, Speak Up has collected and shared the views of more than 5 million students, teachers, and parents from all 50 states, as well as internationally. By participating in the SpeakUp survey, you’ll have the opportunity to express your views to your local schools, our district, state and national policy makers, and the business community.

The online survey is open to students, educators, parents, and community members; it’s quick and easy to get involved.

To take the survey, visit: speakup.tomorrow.org and select the Parent survey in English or Spanish.
If your student is taking the survey, which we are encouraging, they will need the password: pusd.  Parents do not need a password to complete the survey.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views with us! Your input will inform our work as we strive to provide the best education for each of our students.

1ST ANNUAL CHARACTER COUNTS ICE CREAM SOCIAL FOR TRUSTWORTHY AND RESPECT

STUDENTS INVITED TO ATTEND WILL RECEIVE AN INVITATION IN THEIR FOLDER THIS WEEK

This event will be held Thursday, December 7th from 1:00-1:30pm in the MPR and lunch room. All of the students who were recognized for the traits Trustworthy and Respect will be dismissed from class to enjoy some ice cream. An invitation will go home in your student’s folder this week. Please be on the lookout for the invitation. Remember to have your student wear their "I've Got Character" t-shirt on Thursday so that we can take a group photo.
Jimmie, a former Cheetah and Manager from Trader Joes in Carmel Mountain Ranch, has graciously offered to donate the ice cream and syrup for the first Ice Cream Social as well as small water bottles for all three events this year.  A BIG Thank you to Trader Joes for supporting our school and our students.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE UPDATE
The Cub Scouts packed 99 completed Thanksgiving Food Bags and had additional canned food to donate as well.  Thank you for all of your help!  Below is the thank you email we received:
Dear Tierra Bonita Cub Scouts and TBES Community,
We want to thank you for all you contributed to make Thanksgiving meals special for so many this year!  If it wasn't for your partnership and generosity it would have never been achievable to reach out to 919 households, community-wide with Thanksgiving food bags.

Tierra Bonita's caring spirit, exemplary planning and execution ensured a wonderfully successful FFCC food drive, especially being your first effort!

We appreciate that all of you are just as concerned and proactive about getting food to those that need it. Friends & Family Community Connection acknowledges your heartfelt teamwork!

With gratitude,
Becky Palenske, Mary Cushing-Inman and the team of volunteers
