Safety Reminder

Welcome to Sundance!  If you have approached the campus close to the start or ending time, you know that our parking lot can be busy and that the traffic flow has changed this year. This information has been created to help the flow of traffic and the safety of pedestrians.
Please discuss the following policies with your child for his/her cooperation and understanding.  Our intent is to ensure that every child is delivered and picked up safely.  With everyone’s cooperation and patience, we can make this goal a reality.
We are looking for more parent volunteers who would be willing to help with the flow of traffic each morning.  These parents would assist the children in getting in and out of the car efficiently, allowing traffic to keep moving.  Please call the office if you are willing to help at least one day a week.

  • Please drive slowly.
  • Follow the Golden Rule with other drivers and staff members. Remember that you are not the only one in a hurry.
  • Please do NOT get out of the car to assist or escort your child.
  • Pull up to the curb before the blue crosswalk before dropping off or picking up your child.
  • Pull up close to the car in front of you.
  • Please refrain from using cell phones while driving in the parking lot.
  • Busses have priority.  Please be cognizant of their presence and try to make their entrance and exit as easy as possible.
  • Please do not park in the reserved spaces.
  • Park in one of the parking spaces, not in the traffic flow area at any time of the day.
  • If you park in the red zone or in the handicapped parking and leave your vehicle, you are likely to be ticketed by the San Diego Police Department.
Supervision on the playground begins at 7:50. Please do not drop off your child before then.
The traffic does not become congested before 8:05. By leaving your home 10 minutes earlier, you could avoid the wait in the parking lot.
As you drop off your child in the morning by vehicle, please follow the flow of traffic.
  • Have your child on the right (passenger) side of the car with materials ready to go.
  • Move forward as close to the flagpole as possible before stopping to let your child out.
  • Wait until you reach the sidewalk to drop off your child.  For your child’s safety, do not drop your child off in the middle of the parking lot

For ten minutes after school is dismissed, the parking lot is an extremely
busy and potentially dangerous area.
Students who are waiting for a ride will be standing by the grass area past the kindergarten playground by the office.
If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, please follow the flow of traffic in the parking lot.  Do not get out of your car to get your child, or expect him/her to cut through the parking lot on their own.
  • While in your car, you need to stay in a single lane in front of the school closest to the curb. Once your child is in the car, move out of the pick-up lane.
  • Please continue to move forward as far as possible before stopping for your child get into the car.
  • Please do not get out of your car to assist or escort your child.
  • This is not a good time to converse with your child’s teacher.
  • Please be patient.
  • After the busses depart, vehicles can to pull forward so that more cars can line up in front of the school.
  • Use the pedestrian crosswalk.
