Principal's Annual 'Back to School' Message

Dear Park Village Families,

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as your new Principal of Park Village Elementary School.  It is going to be an exciting year as we collectively strive to foster a culture of learning and a positive school climate.  I have heard so many wonderful things about the staff, students, and families. I am so excited to get to know you.

My main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment that instills in each and every child a strength of character, a sense of community, and a love of learning. Working together as a team with our staff and families, I am committed to this goal. You will quickly see that I am an inclusive, collaborative, and visible school leader who puts the best interests of students above all else.

I have served as an educator for 21 years in the Orange Unified School District and Poway Unified School District.  My experiences in education include Principal, Assistant Principal, Teacher on Special Assignment, ELD Resource Teacher, and elementary classroom teacher. My late husband and I are also blessed to be PUSD parents as both our sons, Landon (17)) and Colton (15) attend Poway High School.

I look forward to serving students, staff, and families to continue the excellence within Park Village Elementary.  Go Penguins!

Warm Regards,

Rhiannon Sharp Buhr

Attendance: Regular attendance is critical in ensuring student success in school. Please call the Attendance Line at (858) 538-0437 when your child is absent. If the school is not notified regarding an absence by 9:30 AM, our automated system will call you for verification. Unverified absences are considered truant.

Absence on the First Day of School: Please call the school at 858-484-5621 to account for your child’s absence. If this is a planned absence, let the office know in advance. An unconfirmed absence on the first day of school may result in the District dropping your student from attendance at Park Village.
Medication at School: If your child is on medication, a “Physician’s Recommendation for Medication” form must be obtained from the school, completed by the physician, and returned to the school. No medication may be given at school without this form. An adult must bring the medication to the school office in the original container medication is dispensed. Children may never have medication in their possession at school. This includes aspirin, inhalers, cough drops, etc.

Bicycle Riding: Only students in grades 4 and 5 may ride a bicycle to school. Children must wear a helmet, provide a lock for the bicycle, and follow safety rules/laws. A permission form, obtained from the office, must be completed and on file with the office for students who wish to ride their bikes to school. Bikes must be walked once on school grounds. No rollerblades, razors, scooters, or skateboards are allowed on campus.

Parking Lot Drop Off & Pick Up: We appreciate your help in keeping our students safe during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal. Please see Parking Information for diagrams and other important reminders.

Before School Supervision: Children should not arrive at school before 8:40 AM. Beginning at 8:40 AM, supervision will be provided on the playground for all students.

Park Village is a closed campus: Once children arrive, they may not leave unless a parent or other authorized person comes to the office to sign a release. To insure the safety of our children, you will be required to show I.D. when you pick up your student.

Extended School Services: Park Village provides an ESS program, which is a fee based before and after school childcare program. ESS is open from 6:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. All students planning to participate in ESS must be registered at our ESS building. Please call our coordinator, Kaitlyn Antus at 858-484-9735, for information regarding registration and fees.

Back to School Night: This is an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and learn about their child’s classroom expectations, homework policies and curriculum. This is an ‘adults only’ evening.  We look forward to seeing you on the first day of school!
