Program Details
PUSD is pleased to offer an Integrated Preschool Program for the 2022-2023 school year. The classrooms are located at Pomerado and Deer Canyon Elementary Schools. There is also potential for additional peer model programs to be available at other school sites. The program serves a mix of preschool aged students, both with and without specialized needs. The program is built around General Education developmental preschool standards. Students in the program who are identified as having disabilities experience difficulties in one or more of the following areas: speech and language, social skills and/or play skills.
The key component of the Integrated Program is the inclusion of students without disabilities who serve as peer models. The children work as an integrated group by learning and playing together in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. Curriculum is play-based and embeds pre-academic concepts into social experiences.
Each day, the kids have the opportunity to learn and explore through structured small group activities, facilitated play, free exploritory play, outside play and large group intruction. The classroom embeds academic and social instruction into fun thematic units throughout the year. These are warm and joyful learning environments for our youngest learners, laying a strong foundation for their school experience.
