Meal Benefit Program

Free and Reduced Lunch Application – Meal Benefit Program

We encourage you to fill out this form if you think you might qualify. Although PUSD meals are free this year for all students, there are other benefits that could help your family such as discounts on public transportation, and reduced fees for internet. In addition, the CDE recently announced that another round of Pandemic-EBT benefits will be distributed starting in November, to assist eligible families in purchasing groceries. Students will receive P-EBT benefits if they meet criteria related to free and reduced-price meal eligibility. Pomerado also benefits from qualified families completing this form. Our Title 1 funds that we use for intervention programs, extra days of counseling, and other supports for our Wildcats are based on enrollment. Our funds took a large cut this year due to lowered enrollment. Please help yourself and our Wildcats and see if you qualify! Forms were sent home or you can access information here: https://powayusdnutrition.com/?page=lunchapps

Each year, families have the opportunity to apply for Free or Reduced Lunch to support their students’ nutritional needs at school.  However, qualifying for Free or Reduced Lunch is not just about accessing school lunches.  Students who qualify for Free or Reduced lunch may receive other supports throughout their K-12 educational experience such as:

·         Reduced fees/waivers for ACT, PSAT, and SAT tests

·         Reduced fees/waivers for Advanced Placement exams

·         Waivers for college applications

PUSD receives funding from the state and federal governments to support the needs of low-income students. For each student who qualifies for free or reduced price meals, our district receives thousands of additional dollars in funding.  Studies show that many eligible students, in particular middle school and high school students, do not complete this form each year, leaving  hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for PUSD on the table. Even a small increase in eligible forms collected results in significantly more money to support our schools and students.

If you would like to apply, the confidential application can be found at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application

Even if your qualified student chooses to bring their own lunch to school, they may still access these additional benefits.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school office at 858-748-1320.
