Criteria For School Attendance

The Absence Hotline is available 24/7

If your child is absent from school or you need to clear a previous absence, please contact the attendance 24-Hour hotline. Reporting absences is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. To report an absence, call the hotline each day (unless you give us a date range for multiple days) the student is absent. All absences must be cleared within 24 hours or they are coded as truant. Please be prepared to provide your student’s name, your grade, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, your name and your relationship to the student.

Please try to schedule appointments after school hours. During school hours, students must be checked out through the office, with proper identification. Please do not call the office in advance to have your student dismissed, we will call when you arrive.
Students will only be released to parties listed on their accounts. Changes to this CAN NOT be done by phone. You will have to update this in person or on your MyPlan account.

All students arriving after 9:00 am must check in at the office for a late slip. Please call the attendance hotline if your student will not be a school before 9:30. If you call, please be prepared to provide your student’s name, your grade, the date of the tardy, the reason for the tardy, your name and your relationship to the student. If tardy due to a doctor appointment, please request a doctor’s note and provide to the office at check-in.

Medical Notes: When your student misses any amount of school for a doctor/dentist appointment, it is beneficial to his/her attendance record to bring an official medical note to the attendance desk. Any all-day absence excused by a medical note does not count toward your student’s absence total.

Attendance is vital for school funding, and any absences reduce the funding the school gets from the state (unless the student is on an Off-Campus Independent Study Contract [OCIS]).

  • OCIS CONTRACTS:  If there is a planned absence of five or more consecutive days, please see the office staff at least one week prior to the absence to set up a homework contract.
  • An OCIS contract allows your student to do the work that he or she would be doing if they were in class - and helps the school to continue to be funded by the state.
  • Long Term Medical Absences:  OCIS contracts will not be made for medical absences; however, home tutors may be available for some extended medical problems.
