Principal's Message:

Welcome to Morning Creek! 
Dear Morning Creek Community,
Thank you for the warm welcome and support!  I am thrilled to be joining our Colt Community as your new principal this year! Here's a little bit about me:

 As an educator of 14 years, eight of which have been as a site administrator, I am passionate about ensuring the highest-quality education for all our students. I believe school should be a safe, fun place to learn collaboratively, with the hopes of instilling a lifelong love of learning. I believe all students are capable of learnings and it's our job as educators to meet them where they're at to support their unique learning needs at their levels. 

With my teams, I encourage taking risks to try new things as every group of students is unique and we grow in our practice when we take risks. I also emphasize small group instruction with all teachers wherein students' needs can be met through differentiation. 

Here at Morning Creek, our goal is to provide the best educational experience for your child. I invite all parents, guardians and family members to partner with us to make that possible. There are many ways to be involved through our PTA and Foundation, and I welcome any input or feedback you can offer (compliments, comments, concerns, etc). Summer Office Hours: The office is open August 12th-17th from 9:00-1:00 pm. Starting August 18th, the office hours will be 8:15 am - 3:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursdays, office hours will be 8:15 am - 2:00 pm.

The following information should answer many of your questions regarding the start of school.
School Begins on Wednesday, August 18, 2021

Kindergarten Schedule
Transitional Days- August 18, 2021- September 24, 2021 8:45-12:55 pm
Beginning September 27, 2021, the Kindergarten students will begin the same schedule as Grades 1-5 below:

Grades 1-5 Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:45-3:05
Thursday (Time Banking Day) 8:45-1:25

TK Schedule
Daily (Monday-Friday) 8:45-1:05
Classroom Assignments
This year we are offering a "Meet Your Teacher" opportunity instead of posting class lists in front of the school. This event will take place on Tuesday, August 17th between 2:30-3:30 pm. PTA will also be providing popsicles for students who attend. It is possible that these assignments may change due to changes in enrollment.
Before School Supervision
The playground will be open to students in the morning beginning at 8:25 am. No supervision will be provided before 8:25 am so students should not arrive at school before this time unattended. Once students arrive, they may not leave unless a parent or other authorized person comes to the office to sign them out. To ensure the safety of our children, you will be required to show identification when you pick up your child.
Visitor/Volunteer
To ensure the safety of our students and to maximize learning, Morning Creek is a closed campus after 8:45 am. We will open the gates at dismissal for parents to pick their child up from school. Anyone who wants to come on campus must come and check in at the office.

At this time, the guidance remains that volunteers may not have direct contact with students, but can volunteer in the workrooms or preparing items for the teachers at home. Volunteers are also required to show proof of vaccination or a negative covid test within the week. 

All visitors/volunteers must sign in at the computer to receive a visitor's badge. Please wear the appropriate badge while you are on campus. Before you are able to volunteer on our campus, you must have all paperwork completed, including Megan's Law, TB verification, and a signed Volunteer Code of Conduct. Please check out at the computer when leaving school. This will give us an accurate number of who is on campus during our routine drills or in case of an emergency.
School Lunch- 
This year all students have the option of getting a free lunch at school! This includes milk, hot item, salad bar (fruit or vegetables- individually packaged).

Medication at School
If your child is on medication, a "Physician's Recommendation for Medication" form must be obtained from the school, completed by the physician, and returned to school. No medication may be given at school without this form. An adult must bring the mediation to the school office in the original container medication is dispensed. Children may never have medication in their possession at school. This included aspirin, inhalers, cough drops, etc.
Bicycle Riding
Only students in grades 3, 4, and 5 may ride a bicycle to school. Children must wear a helmet, provide a lock for the bicycle, and follow safety rules/laws. A permission form, obtained from the office, must be completed and on file with the office for students who wish to ride their bikes to school. Bikes must be walked once on school grounds. No rollerblades, razors, scooters, or skateboards are allowed on campus.
Parking Lot Drop Off & Pick Up
When dropping off and picking up students in the parking circle please drive all the way around the outer edge of the circle then pull all the way forward to drop off/pick up your child at the curb. Do not let your child out of the car until you are stopped at the edge of the curb. Never leave your car unattended in the loading zone. We have staff to help keep the flow of traffic moving. If you need to enter the school campus for any reason, please park your car in a designated space in the lot or on the street. Please do not park in an unassigned spot or in the red zone as it blocks our incoming busses.
Extended Student Services
Morning Creek provides an ESS program, which is a fee-based before and after school childcare program. ESS is open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. All students planning to participate in ESS must be registered at our ESS building. Please call our coordinator, ESS Supervisor Lynnette Hamilton at (858) 748-1497, for information regarding registration and fees.
Peachjar
Morning Creek has gone paperless. All flyers can be accessed on our Morning Creek Page. All you have to do go to www.peachjar.com to sign up. You will see school supply lists, outside organizations, PTA/Foundation information etc. Please support our school and the environment by supporting Peachjar.
Facebook & Instagram page
Morning Creek has launched a Facebook & Instagram page! Follow us @Morning_Creek_Colts. This is another form of communication that will allow families to stay connected. The principal will be posting these types of status updates (school activities, announcements, events, classroom instruction, emergency information, etc.) throughout the weeks. If you choose not to have your child featured on the Morning Creek Elementary School Facebook page, you will need to print out the flyer on Peachjar and turn it in at the front office.
Remind 101
Remind 101 is a one way texting/email tool to get reminders or change of schedule message out to you immediately. All you have to do is opt in by texting (760) 563-5212 and typing @morningcr in the message box to start receiving messages.
