Round Up Bulletin

RANCH ROUND UP 021420

Hello Stallion Families,

Thank you to the PTA for a great family week!   Today's Pastries with Parents was a big hit, beginning our day with smiles and happy Stallions.   We hope you enjoy your break, and take the time for two very important opportunities to help shape the future of Highland Ranch and Poway Unified:

1 - Today is the final day for Poway Unified’s
Thought Exchange
.  PUSD
has been conducting our annual survey to gather stakeholder input on our Local
Control Accountability Plan, or LCAP, which will shape the District’s goals and
guide our budgeting priorities for 2020-2021. We want to hear from YOU!
You will be asked to respond to one question: “What things do we need to focus
on to ensure our students are college, career, and life ready?”
You can participate by following this link: https://my.thoughtexchange.com/#p915330432

2 - BOND MEASURE P INFORMATION MEETING - LAST HRES
MEETING - Please RSVP for this meeting here:
https://forms.gle/VZd5f4d85xwQ1BKa6

The Poway Unified School District Board of
Education is placing Measure P on the March 2020 ballot. Please plan to join us at this informational
meeting on February 28 at 8:00 a.m. at Highland Ranch Elementary School
Library, Guest Speaker, and Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps
.

Reminder - There is no school next week (February 17-21) for Presidents’ Week.
We look forward to seeing you back at the Ranch on Monday, February 24.   The attendance hotline is 858-485-4876. Please be sure to call your child’s absence in, and always remind your son/daughter to go through the health office if he/she is not feeling well.  A student should never call you directly from his/her cell phone during school day.

SPELL-A-THON and SPELLING BEE UPDATE
Our 10th Annual Foundation Spell-a-thon is going very well! There is still a lot of pledge money to be turned in though and we would love to reach our goal of $13,000.  Remember, this money goes to support all the HRES students with a P.E. Coach, Science teacher, World Music and impact teachers as well as supporting Art, Choir and so much more.
The elimination spelling bees will be when we return from break!  Good luck to the third, fourth, and fifth graders who will be participating!   Those students who are participating in the Bee, mark your calendars! Fifth grade bee is on February 24th, Fourth grade bee is on February 25th, and Third grade bee is on February 26th.   All Bee contestants should be at the MPR between 5:00 and 5:15, the Bees start promptly at 5:30.

Poway Unified School District is proud that our schools are among the best in California in terms of academic performance and providing high-quality educational opportunities to all students. Our high-achieving schools make our communities a desirable place to live and protect the value of our homes.  Many of our local schools and facilities are outdated and deteriorating and need to be repaired and upgraded to ensure they are meeting current safety and academic standards. By the year 2023, if improvements are not made, 62% of our campuses will be considered "poor" condition. You can view our recent facilities condition assessment here.

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO HELP!
Did you know that for $10 per person each school year, you can make a difference in our school for our children?  Join the PTA today! It is never too late and you don't even have to volunteer your time (unless you want to, of course)!  By joining, not only do you support fun events throughout the year for our students and their families to make lifelong memories, you also make a difference in providing updates, necessities, and supplies at HRES!  Your membership also allows PTA to provide each of our teachers with a supply budget each year, helps fund the art program at HRES, and it increases our voice to be heard at the district and state level! Our goal is to get to 300 members this year and we are currently at 205.  Every teacher at HRES has joined the PTA at $10 for the year but we also need your support, our parents and families! Please join today at https://hrespta.myschoolcentral.com and receive a Buy 1, Get 1 Free ice cream cone coupon from Baskin Robbins!  More member benefits can be found HERE!  Thank you!

YEARBOOK NEWS
New this year - RECOGNITION ADS!!  Recognition ads are a great way to allow parents to recognize students and teachers in the yearbook.  Ads come in 4 sizes. See Treering.com for more details.
The last day to order your yearbook and upload those pictures is Friday, April 17th.  The yearbook editors need time to edit and proofread the yearbook before submitting to print.

PICTURES! PICTURES! PICTURES!
Did you enjoy your time at the Sweetheart Dance?
Did you enjoy your time at the Poway Fun Bowl?
Did you enjoy your time having lunch with your child?
Upload those photos so we can see the fun!!
The yearbook committee is in dire need of photos to complete the yearbook.   We need classroom candids, 1st day of school, choir/chorus, spirit days, any pictures of your children with Mrs. Venolia, and staff candids.
The Yearbook Committee (parent volunteers) is always in the process of needing pictures to include in the yearbook, and we would like your help.  You can upload your student’s pictures of the various school activities and events. Even if you don’t buy a yearbook, you can still upload photos using www.treering.com and enter our school code 1013489799753947.  Your photos will help our yearbook committee editors as they continue to work on the yearbook.  All pictures should have been taken within HRES campus or at places where a school-sponsored activity has taken place.  If you have any questions, please email us at hresybk@gmail.com.

BOX TOPS CONTEST
Don’t forget to send in your box tops and scan your receipts! Our next contest will go until April 3. If we can reach $100 (1000 box tops or scans) the WHOLE SCHOOL gets a popsicle party! Download the new Box Tops mobile app on any smart phone in the app store. The new app allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school’s earnings online. If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school. Don’t forget, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products. Thanks for helping our school get what it needs!
