Principal's Message

Dear Garden Road Families,

What an honor it is to be serving as the Garden Road Principal. The families, staff and district team have been incredibly warm and welcoming to me, and I cannot wait to get started. I know we are facing unprecedented times, but our staff is undaunted, focusing on your children to provide student-centered learning and social emotional growth. In my 23 years as an educator, I have served as a general education elementary teacher, a district instructional coach, district curriculum and instruction coordinator, and assistant principal at the elementary and middle school levels. My goal in life is to continually seek improvement and make meaningful connections with others. I hope to build on the well established Garden Road community to inspire others to reach their potential and to make a difference in our world. I am so excited to meet all of your children and work with you as we start the 2020-2021 school year.
I would like to recognize some amazing staff members for their continued commitment and dedication to your students. Mrs. Mary Nichol’s and Team ESS have done an amazing job this summer pioneering teaching and learning in a Covid19 world. Our dedicated custodians, Tonya and George, have worked very hard to prepare the classrooms and school grounds for the new school year. Additionally, our office staff, Pam McMaster, Catherine Perpetua, and Gabby Meadows, have managed to attend to every detail in getting our office and teachers everything they need to start school.

We have formed a School Reopening Team consisting of teachers, ESS staff, classified staff, and parents to address the Governor's Guidelines for Health and Safety to create a safe environment for students when they return. We are also working closely with teachers to hone virtual learning plans to be flexible, differentiated, and work for our families and our students.

The PTA and Foundation leadership continue to meet to plan innovative fundraising and school events in this unprecendented year. We are very fortunate to have such caring, hardworking, and generous parents helping to support our efforts and instructional program.
I will be sending a weekly call out and newsletter to update families on events, data, and announcements. If you are not receiving my updates, please contact our office so we can get you connected. Additionally, we have various events and meetings throughout the year for parents/guardians to attend and share feedback or ask questions. It is a team effort with our staff and with you at home, and we are here to support and serve.
I am beyond excited for our first year together as your principal. Please feel free to email me at or call 858-748-0230 with any questions, suggestions, or comments. I am always open to suggestions on how to make our school stronger and better. We are going to be a great team!
With gratitude,
Lisa Maguire
