Enrollment for New Students


Due to COVID-19, Poway Unified School District has updated the new student enrollment process for the 2020-2021 school year. While school offices are closed, the enrollment process will be completed electronically. There will be multiple steps to the enrollment process that are outlined below. Please read through them carefully. 

STEP 1: Contact Deer Canyon at  Enrollment-DeerCanyon@powayusd.com to request enrollment information.  Please use the Address Lookup tool to assist you with the confirmation of your correct School of Residence. You will receive a reply with a link to upload your enrollment forms.

STEP 2: Print and use the  DCES-Enrollment-Checklist 2020-2021 to make sure you have all needed forms ready for submission. All needed forms (PUSD forms and Deer Canyon specific forms) can be found here:

STEP 3: Scan all forms, and submit to the Google Form link provided in your email from Deer Canyon (see Step 1)

Once all mandatory forms are received and viewed, you will receive an email from the Deer Canyon Enrollment Team, confirming your successful enrollment. Your student's enrollment is NOT complete, until you receive the confirmation email.

PLEASE NOTE: Your student’s enrollment ensures a seat at a school in Poway Unified. We make every effort to enroll your child at your neighborhood school. In some cases, classes at your neighborhood school may reach capacity, in which case we will work with you to place your child at a nearby school.‚Äč

Parents will not be permitted to enroll their child until the following requirements and documents are met and provided. 
  1. Child's Birth Certificate (or a copy thereof), Baptismal Certificate, or Passport.
  2. TWO separate proofs of Residency Verification. (Proofs of residency must contain name of individual signing the form.)
  3. Up-to-Date Immunization Records (or a copy thereof). (Immunization Requirement link noted below.  Please scroll down to the end of the page.)
ALL New Enrollment Forms must be submitted at time of enrollment.
NOTE:  All children entering Kindergarten for the 2020/2021 school year MUST be FIVE years of age on or before September 1, 2020.

                                IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION

IMMUNIZATIONS - PLAN AHEAD…Have immunizations completed. If your child has not received all the necessary immunizations because they are not five yet, parents must provide written proof of a future appointment (before school starts in August) for these immunizations.

Official immunization record must include:
  • Name of Child
  • Date of Birth
  • Name of immunization administered
  • Month and year of EACH immunization. Include day if obtained within birth month.
  • Name of health care provider or agency administering EACH vaccine.
NOTE:  If you are taking your child to the doctor for their five year old physical and immunizations prior to enrollment, you may download the Report of Health Checkup for School Entrance MCH77 from the Poway Unified School District website under new student enrollment. The Oral Health Checkup form is also available on the website.
