Principal Rhiannon Sharp Buhr

Dear Chaparral Families:
I am delighted to be returning as the principal of Chaparral Elementary School and anticipate an exciting year ahead as we collectively strive to foster a culture of learning through a stimulating school environment.  I feel extremely fortunate to be working with such an exceptional group of students, families, and staff.  It is truly my pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you all as we begin the new school year.
My main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment that instills in each child a strength of character, a sense of community, and a love of learning. Working together as a team with our staff and parents, I am committed to this goal. You will quickly see that I am an inclusive, collaborate, and a visible school leader who puts the best interests of students above all else.
Technology must play an important role in the education so that it can foster a personalization of learning where children are engaged and taking ownership of their studies. My goal is for our students to be using media and technology through real scenarios that involve real work-networking, researching, communicating, analyzing and persuading.
I am excited about  the transition to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) because they provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn in K-12 math and language arts. The goal of the CCSS is to prepare students to be college and career ready for the 21st century by demonstrating critical thinking skills, working collaboratively, communicating effectively in oral and written contexts, and exhibiting creativity and innovation.
I am looking forward to working with you and your student as we work toward an academically successful school year.  These are exciting times at Chaparral.  Let the journey begin!
Warm Regards,
Rhiannon Sharp Buhr
