What Is Parent Academy?

Parent Academy is a one-stop shop where parents can learn about the numerous educational technology tools that teachers are using with students in their classrooms. These resources will make it easier for parents to understand how teachers engage students in meaningful ways in a technology integrated environment that highlights student collaboration.

What Is Canvas?

  • Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) for PUSD. It's where students and parents can find student assignments and grades, communicate with teachers, and access the student tools you'll learn about in Parent Academy. Canvas makes it simple and easy for parents to access what they need in order to help their students thrive.

*PUSD Parents will use their District provided login credentials and do not need a pairing code.

What Is MyPLAN?

  • MyPLAN is the landing page of the Poway Unified School District. Parents, students, and teachers can all gain access to grades, assignments, and educational technology tools seamlessly and with only one password.

What Is Kami?

  • Kami is a leading digital classroom app for Chrome. It allows you to take any existing document, including scanned PDFs, and write, draw, type, annotate, comment, augment, enhance, and otherwise bring it to life – all within your browser. Students can annotate on these interactive documents and submit them to their teachers for feedback.

What Is Flipgrid?

  • Flipgrid is a video-response tool that allows teachers to create topics to facilitate video discussions in a variety of ways. Each topic is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics", and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display. Topics can include guest speakers, giving students real-world connections while learning in a virtual environment.

What Is Seesaw?

  • Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and students to record and share what's happening in the classroom. Seesaw is a place for students to document their learning, be creative, and learn how to use technology. Each student has their own journal and will add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or notes. Parents are also connected, so students can share their work with them anytime they like.

What Is Loom?

  • Loom is a a browser-based screen recording program. This tools allows teachers to record their teacher screens to explain concepts, give step-by-step instructions, or teach a lesson, so it's "on-demand" for students to watch at a time of their choosing. This tool can also be used by students to record presentations or explain their thinking.

What Is A Chromebook?

  • Chromebooks are cloud-based laptop devices that simplify delivery of student content and classwork. Since Chromebooks work in the cloud, student saved data is stored securely in their Google Drive cloud drive. This information will carry over year-to-year, automatically creating a digital portfolio for a student's entire time in PUSD.

What Is Zoom?

  • Zoom helps schools improve student outcomes with secure video communication services for hybrid classrooms, office hours, administrative meetings, and more. Zoom allows educators to teach in a virtual environment with features like whiteboards, breakout rooms for small groups, and interactive polling.

Having trouble with Zoom?

  • Make sure your child followed the authentication process (directions above).
  • Before clicking on your class Zoom link in Canvas, click the 'Zoom' icon within MyPLAN in order to sign in to your Zoom account.
  • Upgrade to the latest version of Zoom (download here).
  • If using a District Chromebook, please make sure you are properly shutting down the computer each night, as this is how the Chromebook updates.
  • If on a Chrome web browser:
    • You may need to clear your cache (directions).
    • Make sure you are logged in to your child's Google Account on Chrome  (directions).

What Is i-Ready?

  • i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year.

What Is Lexia?

  • Lexia Reading supports educators in providing differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities in grades pre-K–5. Lexia’s research-proven program provides explicit, systematic, personalized learning in the six areas of reading instruction, targeting skill gaps as they emerge, and providing teachers with the data and student-specific resources they need for individual or small-group instruction.
