Project Fair & Share

A fundraising campaign focused on equity

This year, we are excited to launch Project Fair & Share, a fundraising campaign focused on equity.
As leaders in the Poway Unified School District and the Districtwide Foundation, we recognize that there is a wide variation in the amount of funds that are raised by each of our school site foundations. For example, some of our school site foundations struggle to raise $10,000 annually, while other schools raise more than $150,000 in a single campaign. Because our school site foundations provide funding to support site staffing, materials, or technology, the disparity in per pupil funding levels results in some very real inequities within our unified school district. For example, through funds raised by their site foundations, many of our elementary schools are able to provide weekly enrichment for students in the areas of STEM, art, and PE, while other schools are not able to offer those enrichment opportunities for students. School site foundations also provide much-needed support to classroom teachers, and the cumulative effects of this income disparity are felt at the classroom level with differences in materials, technology, and experiences. And that’s not okay.

You may be wondering why it is that Poway Unified School District, as a California public school district, does not have more state funding available to provide these important activities for our students. Did you know that in terms of per pupil funding, Poway Unified School District is the lowest funded unified school district in all of San Diego County? That is the reason we rely on our PUSD Foundation and school site foundations to help fill in the gaps and provide some of the services and experiences our students need and deserve.
With that in mind, we are passionate about launching our equity fundraising campaign, Project Fair & Share. The funds raised through Project Fair & Share will help to “level the playing field” among all of our schools and provide additional financial support to our most needy students. All students are part of our community, and many will continue as community members after they graduate high school and college. To donate now is to invest in your future neighbors and employees.

Your donation will allow us to provide grants to the schools that need it the most. Funds raised through Project Fair & Share will be distributed to fund projects that parents and school leaders have identified as most important.
These are some examples of what your donation could fund:

  • Seating and shade structures for outdoor learning areas
  • Mental health and social-emotional learning supports and curriculum
  • Additional STEM, art, music, and PE materials and equipment
  • Additional instructional hours and academic supports
  • Additional computers in classrooms or devices for students to access online learning
  • Remote internet access to families

We hope you will make a donation today by clicking on the donate buttons. Your contribution is tax deductible (federal tax ID #54-2098945).
With your help, we will continue to be national leaders in public education and will provide each and every one of our 36,500 students with the essential knowledge, support, and state-of-the-art resources they deserve.

Very gratefully,
Poway USD Foundation Board of Directors
